Missoulu, Mt.—.Northern RegionalForester Tom Coston has invited pub-lic comment and participation in thedevelopment of a long-range land andresource plan fcr the Region,

"Contacts are being made with in-dividuals, agencies, conservationgroups, t esouvce org unizations andothers interested in ntanagementplanning for the National Forests kNational Grasslands of the four-state(<Montana, northern Idaho, NorthDakota and westevn South Dakota)Region," Coston explained. "iWe aremaking these contacts in an effcrtto explain the Forest Service plan-ning process and to encourage parti-cipation. We are seeking ideas,suggestions, and comments from allinterested individuals ahd grdups."

In September, six significant Nor-thern Regic n pl'arming issues weveidentified: energy conservation, es-,thetic needs, forage, needs, landown-ership, wildlife and fish habitat andwood fiber needs.

"We seek public comment on thesesix issues and other issues the publicfeel should be considered in develop-ing long-range plans under the pro-visions of the Resources PlannlingAct," Coston explained.
