DESCRIPTION

© 2003, BAF Berlin Animation Film / Oniria The Story By happenstance, Bob has been cast ashore on one of the weirdest, wildest, wackiest atolls ever to break waves in the Caribbean. Bob’s frequent attempts to escape are often underscored with Jamaican reggae and beach parties aplenty, then harpooned by the silly antics of native islanders such as Zaza-the crocodile lady, Acoumba-the piranha, and Hurakan-a villainous tribal leader whose dark magic only succeeds through his own devious sleight-of –hand. If Hurakan’s magic really worked, he could return Bob back to the city, but no such luck. Hurakan would rather see Bob boiling at the bottom of an island volcano. So, as long as Bob remains a cast away, he’ll have to find two ways of escape…off the island and out of Hurakan’s evil clutches.

The Story

You can take a dog out of the city,

but you can’t get him off a deserted island.

Hey, mon, Bob just wants to get home.

A city dog, now shipwrecked on a deserted island, Bob has his work cut out. Not only does he want to leave; the island isn’t exactly deserted, either. In fact, Bob is far from alone.

Bob, a true city dog, is a curious canine with a nose for adventure. A truly nervy fellow, Bob sniffs in and out of every nook and cranny, going on-the-point for any kind of excitement.

Now a castaway on Irie Island, Bob’s adventurous curiosity perplexes the island’s inhabitants, who, when left to their own devices, prefer their carefree, laid-back, beachcombing lifestyle. With the ever-on-the-go Bob around, the natives are constantly plunged into the dog’s escapades, whether they like it or not.

Timid turtle Nel is Bob's closest friend and sensible advisor. Ever since he discovered Bob stranded on Irie Island, Nel has felt responsible for the hyperactive “city dog.”

Nel’s favorite pastime is kicking back in his palm-shaded hammock and slurping on a cool fruit cocktail. However, as Bob’s pal, Nel barely has time to even think of taking it easy.

Montego

Montego is the crab equivalent of a true Californian surfer dude. He lives for that fleeting moment of “hanging four” just before he gets hurled face first against a rock.

Montego's other great passion is painting – he is an impassioned, but disregarded, artist who creates extravagant masterpieces, crafted from anything he can get his pincers on.

Acoumba

Acoumba, the piranha, differs from others of his vicious species- he is a vegetarian. Nevertheless, he is ravenous all day long. Luckily, Acoumba has a private, frog-driven taxi that shuttles him about the island on his many searches for the freshest veggies – the first fish ever to stalk celery!

Pai-Papi is a cute, tiny, butterfly everyone on the island adores. Since she knows Irie Island better than all the others – thanks to her flying experience – Pai-Papi keeps the others informed about any and all activities around the atoll.

Loubabi & Magada

A closer look at these elegant, pink, dancing flamingos reveals two bickering intellectuals who have differing opinions on every little thing - solely out of principle!

When problems needing solving, Loubabi often offers suggestions that are instantly questioned by Magada. This routine goes on from dusk till dawn…unless there’s a beach party going down. Then, these opinionated, long-legged squabs stop fighting just long enough to delight everyone with their amazing dance moves.

Her teeth may be sharp as razor blades, but Zaza, the crocodile, is a true lady. She would never eat anyone without, first, making certain they were comfortable.

Zulu, her ardent admirer and fellow crocodile, is familiar with her eating habits – in a rage, she bit off part of his tail. Ever since, Zaza has carried the tail tip around as a handbag. Usually a peaceful, motherly character, Zaza would do anything to protect her friends and her famous coconut milkshake is well-known all over the Caribbean...

Mara-Mei

Mara-Mei is Kaziko's daughter and offers the chief support whenever difficulties arise. She understands her father so well, Mara-Mei can interpret even his slightest facial twitch. Popular with all the male islanders, even the evil Hurakan is madly in love with her.

Chief Kaziko

Kaziko, the island chief, possibly knows the secret of the universe. Unfortunately, we may never find out because the benign leader doesn’t speak.

The reason for his silence is that he’s too busy standing on his head or hanging from a tree while meditating. You need to focus your energies for those kinds of things ...

Moano

Moano loves excitement and often joins Bob and his companions on their many adventures. He is quick-witted, courageous and so well versed in all the secrets and the history of the island that, in his infinite wisdom, Chief Kaziko has decided great things are in store for Moano.

Hurakan

Evil wizard, Hurakan, considers himself the greatest wizard of all and is destined by the gods to reign over Irie Island. Ironically, he’s the only islander who believes it.

A self-proclaimed genius, Hurakan feels the islanders don’t offer him their due respect. Now, an outcast, he lashes out against those who have been the cause for such a punishment. From his secret cave, Hurakan constantly plots, hoping to eventually, conquer the island and make himself Chief of Irie.

An essential part of this plan is to marry Mara-Mei, the chief's beautiful, and only, daughter...

Zulu

Zulu, Zaza’s “ex”, has never really got over their separation. He’s as malicious as he is greedy, but isn’t considered clever. In fact, he’s as dim as a 1 watt bulb.

Zulu serves as Hurakan's right hand reptile and guinea pig for the madman’s magical experiments. He hates doing it, but, hey, someone’s gotta be stupid enough to do it.
