Class Summary
This class will detail the current roundabout design workflow, including common pitfalls and timeframes.
We will also explore 3D BIM and a new approach to roundabout design and simulation.
A technical demonstration will show how capacity problems at an intersection can be solved by replacing it with a roundabout.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this class, you will be able to: Understand the roundabout design process Create FHWA 2010 guideline compliant roundabouts Analyze roundabouts for safety and efficiency Allow more time for detailed design issues Produce dynamic 3D corridors in real-time Perform ‘what-if’ modelling on your roundabout projects Create life-like, 3D visualizations

Roundabout Capacity Analysis
Roundabout design always includes traffic capacity analysis, AutoTrack uses BIM principles to dynamically link to ARCADY from TRL to perform this analysis in real time.
Use of ARCADY is mandatory in many countries, e.g. the UK ARCADY is the only software admissable in the UK Rodel licenses the ARCADY capacity model from TRL ARCADY includes the HCM 2010 Roundabout Capacity Model

The presenters of this class are British, as such please bear in mind:
We walk on pavements (not sidewalks) We drive on the correct side of the road (not the right side) We don’t yield at entry (but we do “give way”) Our roundabouts have arms (not legs) Our beer is served warm (not ice cold)
Although the presenters are not intelligent objects and occasionally make mistakes, the software is fully aware of local variations and presents the data accordingly.

AutoTrack will not design a roundabout for you…
IT WILL:
Support your roundabout program with your own rule based standard for both designers and contractors
Speed up conceptual design, allowing more project time for detailed design and engineering decision making
