Butperhaps the time has come for the mobile industry toface equally powerful new entrants who can force it toreinvent itself, or face a slow march towardsobsolescence otherwise. Has the mobile industry in away become a victim of own success by enablingplayers who are now challenging its main business?

In a marketplace where dominant players in specificsegments (Google in search, Facebook in social, Applein smartphones, Uber in instant taxi hire, etc) get thelion’s share of profits, how can industry players, governments and all parts of this wide and complexecosystem find a sustainable way forward where oneagent doesn’t need to vanish for the other to thrive? This session will take a strategic look at where ourindustry is and suggest sustainable ways forward.

How can devices, OSs, appsand services be designed in ways that providepragmatic user-driven privacy choices and controls? What frameworks exist and are emerging to ensuredata protection and privacy in a connected world?

DAY 3Wednesday 4 March09:15 – 10:45Keynote 5: The New Mobile IdentityHall 4, Auditorium 1

The convergence of mobile and IT is creating new andimportant business opportunities for mobile operators.All-IP mobile networks will drive operationalefficiencies and provide new approaches to deliveringa consistently high level of QoS, while new productsand services will have the ability to scale faster thanever before. These new platforms will also play a keyrole in stimulating innovation in the broader digitalecosystem, although persistent concerns over onlinesecurity and privacy will continue to presentsignificant challenges to the deployment of moresophisticated services in areas such as healthcare, finance and e-government. How will these changesimpact the development of hardware and devices?Which emerging technologies will help best protectconsumers, businesses and governments from futureonline threats? How can digital ID and authenticationtechnologies help enhance online security and providethe mechanisms through which to deliver advanceddigital services?

11:15 – 12:45Keynote 6: Digital Transactions andSocial InteractionsHall 4, Auditorium 1

In the digital world the borders between advertising, purchase and loyalty incentives have blurred, enablinga few clicks to complete a sale direct from an advertany time, any place. Meanwhile, social media enablesinteractions with your retailers in real time, whileconsumer reviews and recommendations haveboomed as a way to filter the good and bad online, and to name and shame poor customer service. Thiscreates much greater convenience for consumers but

changes relationships between players throughout theretailing, advertising, payments and social mediaindustries; creating fresh opportunities for all, whilestarting to destabilise some established businessmodels and practices. What does this mean for thesevital industries and for the consumer? Business leadersshare their visions here.

14:00 – 15:00Mobile Accessibility: The BusinessAngle for Improving the Quality ofLifeHall 4, Auditorium 3

14:00 – 15:005G RequirementsHall 4, Auditorium 4

5G has been discussed in earnest for well over a year, and yet there is still no solid identification of therequirements 5G should meet and certainly nodefinition of the enabling technologies that will be usedto meet them. Even with the industry continuing toinvest massively in LTE, early movers in Japan andSouth Korea are amongst those vying for 5G leadership, with the first commercial trials anticipated between2018 and 2020 to coincide with major global sportingevents. In this session, the speakers will try to addressthe question ‘What is 5G?’, and perhaps more tellingly, also consider what isn’t. At a time when industrysustainability is also a concern, should 5G be drivensolely by technical innovation, or are we actuallylooking to the Next Generation to be everything thatalready exists, but better implemented?

14:00 – 15:00The Explosion of ImagingHall 4, Auditorium 5

Digital photography is now a ubiquitous feature for mostsmartphone and tablet users. Applications and onlineplatforms are leveraging the different roles photos andimages can play in our lives with a set of innovative andcompelling user experiences which have transformedthe way we communicate with each other and engagewith the world around us, driving an explosion inimaging that will see trillions of photos taken and sharedonline in the coming year. How is this phenomenondriving the development and design of new devices, products and services? How will innovations in imagingtechnologies be integrated into future offerings? Finally, given the different functions photos can serve, how areconcerns over privacy and ownership being addressedby different service providers?

15:15 – 16:15Mobile Innovation 2: Investment forMarket ImpactHall 4, Auditorium 1

Investment is an essential part of bringing newproducts and services to the market, whilst creating abusiness capable of longevity and real market impact.

Through presentations and case study examples thissession will navigate the investment landscape, supported by speakers from investment providers, banks, start-up accelerators and companies who havecreated breakthrough products in the mobile industry.

15:15 – 16:155G ServicesHall 4, Auditorium 4

Having sought to establish the requirements for 5G inthe previous session, here we will examine the newservices that will be enabled by this next-generationnetwork. With its promise of a tenfold increase in datatransmission speeds compared to current 4Gcapabilities, much lower system latency and higher celltraffic density, services (and revenues) are vital tojustify the investment that operators will need tomake. But will 5G prove a hard sell to investors orconsumers? Is it really about capacity or capability? With 212 billion connected devices forecast by 2020(IDC), how do you size the market and how many ofthese devices are dependent upon the advent of 5G?The vision of a fully connected society is a goal thattranscends technology, since it is dependent upon allexisting and future connectivity enablers working inconcert. Is that achievable and, if so, in whattimescale, and what will it be possible to do whenubiquitous broadband is a reality?

15:15 – 16:15Net Neutrality: Defining the Future ofThe InternetHall 4, Auditorium 5

An open Internet allows start-up companies to reachscale and offer services at marginal costs to a globalaudience. It has been the most important driver oftechnological innovation in this century. CappingInternet access based on type of traffic may end updiscouraging an open entrepreneurial environmentwhere human creativity, rather than technical orcommercial limitations, defines the boundaries ofinnovation. On the other hand, it's misleading tosuggest that broadband infrastructure was not a bigpart of all innovation the world has witnessed to date.Building this infrastructure costs enormous amounts ofmoney, often covered by telcos as well as cablecompanies and defining broadband as utilities mayhinder future investment in faster networks. Thissession will bring industry leaders as well as regulatorsto the forefront of the net neutrality debate, offeringour audience with a unique opportunity to engage inthis industry-defining topic.

Despite the fact that Gartner’s ‘HypeCycle for Emerging Technologies’ report recentlymapped gamification in the ‘Trough ofDisillusionment’, there is little cause to be alarmed, with its huge potential for a variety of applications, many of which are greatly enhanced by mobileconnectivity. For examples, utility companies globallyare expected to spend $13.5 million on gamification in2014, rising to $65 million by 2016, according to IDCEnergy Insights. This highly interactive session willtake a “gamified” approach to presenting theexperiences of utilities, brands, enterprises and otherkey early adopters.
