Getting StartedThese are made of 100% Food Grade Silicone, which means that if they become wet, there will be less friction to keep them in place, and they will be more slippery. Just like if you put water on the ice in an ice skating ring.

The sides of the silicone have a rigid pattern, but it will still slip if the surface is too smooth, wet and enough tension is applied.

Putting the Silicone Lid on

To put the silicone lid on, you can use different kinds of techniques. It depends on the object and what you are comfortable with. Here we will mention one way.

1. Before you start, please make sure the lid is suitable by holding it over the object, and see that the diameter of the silicone lid is a bit smaller than the object.

2. Now, imagine the lid like an analogclock, like the image here on the right. We will reference this to explain thisbetter.

3. Put the silicone lid over the object from8 to 4.

4. Depending on the object, you mightneed to put pressure on the 6 side (useyour stomach for example), to hold thatside down, while you use your left handto drag and pull the tab at 10 over the object, and your right hand to drag and pull the tab at 2 over the object.

5. If the lid now is over the whole object, the hardest part is over and you can now adjust as necessary with the tabs on the silicone lid, toseal it up and secure it in place even more.

Silicone and Safety Features

Don’t confuse silicon with silicone – these are two very different things. While silicone, the topic of interest in this book, refers to complexmolecules with repeated units, silicon is a chemical element and one ofthe constituents of silicone. In fact, silicone is formed when a couple ofsilicon atoms are merged with an atom of oxygen combined with eitherhydrogen or oxygen.

Its consistency is similar to that of rubber and it can be clear, transparent, to look at or, it can be opaque, colored ones. Some of thethings for which silicone is used are oils, greases, resin, caulk, rubber, preserves and of course lids.

The reason why this material is so popular with people who want tomake food and cover lids and various other temporary containers is thefact that silicone can withstand extremely cold as well as hot conditions. These silicone lids are rated -40F/-40C to 446F/230C. So whetheryou want to store something in your freezer for a long time or whetheryou want to microwave it, you can use the silicone lids. We would highlyrecommend however, that if you use the lids in the microwave or oven,do NOT have it sealed up, but leave an opening somewhere. Otherwisethe buildup of heat and expansion might end up bad.

Another reason why silicone is popular is because it has extremely low tono toxicity levels, thus making it very safe for use in terms of ingestibleitems. And these silicone lids are accredited the safety tags by popularand reliable accreditation agencies such as the Food and DrugsAdministration (FDA), Société Générale de Surveillance (now popularlyknown as SGS), Lebensmittel, Bedarfsgegenstände, andFuttermittelgesetzbuch (known simply as LFGB and belonging toGermany) so you can enjoy your meal with no worries about the effectsthe silicone lids would have had on them.

Benefits

The product is very practical. Add to it the facts that the lids can bereused a number of times and that they are environment friendly, thesilicone lids are the perfect solution to your food and drink storageproblems. While these are circular-shaped, and circular objects worksthe best, they do work other shaped objects too. As they can stretch, particularly curvy and oblong shaped that wouldn't otherwise be able tohave a lid, these work very well on.

Just look at theexample here to theright. Notice howthe strawberries aresticking outside thecontainer, and yetthis is completelyair-tight, preservingthe delicious fruit! And it's not evencircular-shaped.

The 6 different diameter sizes (for our “Normal Pack”) are: • 2.56in / 6.5cm • 3.74in / 9.5cm • 4.53in / 11.5cm • 5.71in / 14.5cm • 6.50in / 16.5cm • 8.27in / 21cm

The lids can stretch to the next lid size, so these will cover a wide rangeof objects.

Uses of the Silicone Lids

The most obvious and popular use of these lids would of course be to cover containers that hold food.

You just put the silicone lid over and the flexible silicone will withtension, complete the seal, and make it air-tight. This chapter is alsogoing to talk about a few others, albeit less important, uses of these lids.Let’s look at some of the usages:

1. The lids work on the principles of tension/grip and air-tightness. They can fit on a wide variety of rims. You can use them on all kinds of bowls, mugs, containers, Mason jars, cups and even plates. All you need to do is match the circumference of the lid with the container needed to be covered, make sure the silicone lid is slightly smaller in diameter and you’re all set. Put one side over,

and hold it down while pulling the other tabs on the lid, stretching it over, until you have the whole lid covering the object. Then you can always adjust by using the small tabs on the side of the lid.

Speaking of plates, if you arrange a full meal for a person on a platebeautifully, don’t let the food go to waste in case the person for whom it’s kept ready gets delayed. Put the stretchable lid on it and preserve the plated food for a period of time. It might even be able to keep the heat inside a bit longer, and keep the food warm for a longer time. If not, it's ready to just put in the microwave to be heated up again. Please note though that if you do put it in the microvave, please make sure seal is broken to avoid problems.

2. The lids are stretchable so you can put them on containers thatdon’t have a circular shapes too.

3. Aluminum foil and wraps can be a huge expense over a period oftime and they are not as sturdy as the silicone lids either. So, youare not only saving a lot of money, you are also saving yourselffrom mopping up a lot of spilled sauces and gravy from containers.

5. You can use them to store spices and other products that need tobe used over a period oftime and need to bepreserved safely for theentire duration. Onceyou open a packet ofspices, milk, dry fruits, chips, etc., you need tokeep them in air-tightconditions so that theyremain edible for a longperiod of time.

6. You can create a drum by tapping on the lid as the silicone will vibrate and the container enforce the sound.

7. Use the lids as a “No-slip, grip jar opener”. Just put a slightly largerin diameter lid above the jar's lid and open it up. The friction could make it a bit easier to open the jar.

create a very different ambiance both inside and outside your home. Possibly use a rubber band to keep the lid in place. Make sure the bulb doesn't get too hot for the rubber band though.

15. Poke a small hole in the lid, and put a straw through it! Obviously

you have to be careful to not stretch the lid too much as now it could tear up much easier. If you make the hole round, it shouldn't tear as easy compared to if you just cut the silicone however. This way, you made yourself a cool lid, where you can access the liquid through the straw. Could be used to avoid having insects getting into your drink.

The lid will also help you to avoid major spill, but with a hole in thelid it will not be completely spill proof.

Tips to Use these Lids Better

The many features and benefits of these wonder lids must have madeyou very eager to go try them out immediately at home! Don’t forget topack of them in your bag while going to office too. You never know whenyou may need to store your half eaten sandwich away for later in order togo to that emergency meeting! Here are a few tips to follow so you usethese lids in the best possible ways!

1. Make sure the rims of the containers or the fruits or vegetables youwant to fit the lids on remain dry and free of any other particles or

sticky things like syrups. It may not always be possible to achieve this but keeping the rims as clear as possible will help the lids to work better and minimize the risk of them slipping off or popping back up after a few seconds of being put on. Also, cut your fruits and vegetables carefully if you know they must be covered with these lids for a long time.

Page 19: © 2016 Delightful Premium - Amazon S3 · Introduction 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted every year. 1/3 of all food in the world is wasted. After water, electricity and natural

It's the tension and resistance between the lid and the object that determines if the silicone lid will slide off. With a wet surface, it will be more slippery. A few drops might still work fine though. It also depends on the material and surface of the object you put the lid on. If the lid has more of an edge to “grab around” with tension, this will also help keeping the lid in place, even if it's wet.

2. Any rough or abraded portions of fruits and vegetables will make iteasier to keep these lids on. Please avoid too pointy or strong andsharp edges though, to avoid cutting into the silicone and makingholes that would make the lid tear up much easier when tension isapplied. A pineapple’s rough exterior will make the lid grip better,

and not slip off easily. The silicone is thick enough so it shouldwork pretty well without being damaged. Just double check sothere aren't any long pointy things sticking out.

3. These lids remain safe for use in the following temperature range:

-40F/-40C to 425F/230C.

19

Page 20: © 2016 Delightful Premium - Amazon S3 · Introduction 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted every year. 1/3 of all food in the world is wasted. After water, electricity and natural

Please avoid using temperatures outside this range, because otherwise you’ll damage or have melting lids which will definitely ruin your food contents.

4. A customer suggest using adishwasher 'small things' boxfor the smaller sized lids whenwashing these in dishwasher.

5. If you need to make holes in the lids to fit straws, stirrers oranything else through the lids, do it as gently as possible so that thehole doesn’t become too wide and then cause the whole lid to tearapart.

6. When used in microwave or oven, we strongly recommend not having it sealed. Instead, leave an opening in the cover. If the container is fully sealed while in microwave or oven, the expandingheat and pressure and subsequent release of the cover, may result in damage and/or injury. It will expand and possibly tear because of the heat as well.

These flexible lids have been adored by many people all around theworld. No matter what kind of cuisine you prefer, these lids can come inhandy for all of them. They have sworn off make-shift alternatives likealuminum foils and wraps because these lids are so convenient. Read theinstructions carefully, keep them in a cool dryplace and you’ve got along-time friend inkitchen easily!
