Խաչվերացի երկրորդ կիրակիին յՇաբաթ օրը, Ս. Գէորգի յիշատակութեան օրն է: Ս. Գէորգ ծնած է Կապադովկիայ, առաքինի ընտանիքի մէջ: Երիտասարդ հասակէն ծառայած է հռովմէական բանակիմէջ եւ իր խիզախութեան շնորհիւ արժանացած

• Աւանդութեան համաձայն, Ս. Գէորգի տօնի օրը Էջմիածինէն Արագածոտնի մարզի Մուղնու Ս. Գէորգ Եկեղեցի կը բերուի Ս. Գէորգ զօրավարի մասունքը եւ հաւատացեալները առիթ կ'ունենան հաղորդուելու Սուրբի մասունքին:

• Աւանդոյթի համաձայն Ս. Գէորգի տօնի օրը Երեւանի Նորագաւիթ համայնքի բնակիչները յաւարտ Ս. Պատարագի Ս. Գէորգ եկեղեցւոյ բակը յատուկ մատաղ կը մատուցանեն: Այս տօնը կը նշանաւորուի նաեւ Նորագաւիթի խորհրդանիշը համարուող դեղձի օրհնութեամբ: Օրհնութեան համար բերքի լաւագոյն մասը կը բերուի եկեղեցի եւ օրհնուած դեղձերով կը հիւրասիրուին բոլորը:

• Ս. Գէորգ Զօրավարը կը համարուի նաեւ զինւորներու պահապան սուրբը, եւ այդ օրը եկեղեցիհաւատացեալները յատուկ կ'աղօթեն իրենց զինւորներու ապահովութեան համար եւ կը հայցեն սուրբի բարեխօսութիւնը:

• Արդէն աւանդոյթ դարձած է Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնի Գէորգեան հոգեւոր ճեմարանի պաշտօնական բացումը տօնել Սուրբ Գէորգի տօնին օրը: Ճեմարանը հիմնադրուած է 1874 թ. երջանկայիշատակ Գէորգ IV կաթողիկոսի կողմէ եւ Հայաստանի մէջ գործող երեք հոգեւոր հաստատութիւններէն մին է:

Հռիփսիմէն Հայաստան գալով իր հետ բերած է խաչափայտէներթալէն առաջ, Հռիփսիմէն մասունքըհարաւ-արեւելք ինկած Վարագայ լերկը յայտնէ ճգնաւորներուն, որոնք յանձն պահպանութեան պարտականութիւնը: Ս. Կոյսի նահատակութենէն յետոյ ճգնաւորներըմասունքին վայրը մոռացութեան ենթարկուեցաւ դարը: 653 թ-ին Գլակայ վանքի վանահայրաշակերտ Յովէլին հետ կը մասունքը՝աղօթելով Աստուծոյ ցոյց տալու իրենմը աղօթած ատեն՝ Թոդիկ յանկարծլուսեղէն սիւներ կը տեսնէ , իսկ անոնց լուսաւոր նշանը։ Թոդիկ իր հետ առնելովՍ. Նշանը, որը կ'առաջնորդէ դէպիՅովէլ կը տեսնեն Ս. վանահայր Թոդիկ Ճգնաւորը իր սկսին փնտռել Խաչափայտի

ցոյց տալու իրենց անոր տեղը: Օր յանկարծ Վարագայ լերան շուրջը 12

լուսեղէն սիւներ կը տեսնէ , իսկ անոնց մէջտեղը կը փայլէր Խաչի առնելով Յովէլը կը փութայ դէպի

դէպի Վարագայ վանք, ուր Թոդիկ եւ հանգչած Ս. Սեղանին վրայ: Նոյն ատեն

This Sunday September 25, the Armenian church celebrates the Feast of Holy Cross of Varak, which is unique to the Armenian church.

According to tradition when St. Hripsime and her companions came to Armenia to escape emperor Diocletian, she brought a relic of Holy Cross with her. Before leaving for Vagharshabad, St Hripsime hid it in the Mounts of Varak and only couple of pious

monks knew its location. After her martyrdom and the death of the

monks, the relic remained hidden in the secret place

years. In the year 653, hermit Todik of Glak began looking for the relic. Todik’s prayers to find it were answered and he was shown the locof Holy relic in a vision: he suddenly saw a wonderful light on the top of mountain Varak, surrounded by 12 luminous columns. Monand Joel followed the light and found the relic of Holy Cross resting on the Holy Altar.

The Catholicos, St. Nerses III the Builder, came to Varak to miracle. He ordered that each year the Sunday closest to September 28 (September 25 - October 1) be dedicated to the Holy CrossFirst the relic was placed at the Monastery of Varak and later inchurch the Holy Sign and remained there until 1021, when Ardzrouni brought the relic to Sebastia. After his death the relic is again transferred to its old place and remained there until it Khoshab in 1651. Four years later the relic is returned and placed Church of Holy Mother of God in Van, which later was renamed the Church of Holy Sign. The relic was preserved there till 1915.Unfortunately, after the Armenian Genocide the whereabouts of the relic are unknown.
