Liturgy: The 29th Sunday in Ordinary TimeReadings: Isaiah 45:1, 4-6; 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5bGospel: Matthew 22:15-21Message: Jesus had a profound sense of proportion. He knew that we live in a world that makes conflicting claims on our loyalties. He entrusts us with the responsibility of determining how to manage the many claims that the world makes on our lives. Our moral decisions are not always black or white, but require us to decide what portion of our attention and resources will go to each worthy cause. We need wisdom in setting our priorities and sorting out our responsibilities.

STEWARDSHIP

OPPORTUNITIES 2017

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST

CATHOLIC PARISH

Stewardship Note From:

Cheryl Zoern-MarxSt. Wenceslaus, Neva, Church Secretary

Stewardship through Volunteerism

When I first started as secretary at St. Wenceslaus Parish, I was overwhelmed with the sense of warmth and community of its members. Not only was I welcomed with open arms, I was impressed with the sense of ownership of this small Church. How everyone reached out when called upon or at their own availability. I immediately thought to myself, this Catholic community lives stewardship.

Looking up the words of Stewardship, Volunteerism, and Community in the dictionary, the common words or threads are ‘involvement’ and ‘taking care’. Every week I witness this. From the counters who process our funds, the people who tend to our shrine, the keepers of the cemetery and grounds, to the people who beautify the inside of the Church with flowers and plants and the musicians who add their special touch to the liturgy. The list goes on and on.

I have had parishioners and the people of our tri-parish community ask what our needs are in regards to volunteering? Many say they’d be willing to participate if they knew what was needed. As we all know, the list is long, too long to list here. But, if I was to write a list, it would be topped with the word, offer. Offer your time, your heart and your talents to the Church. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are. Look around and see if there is something you’d want to help with or more importantly someone you want to help or connect with. We welcome you to come and experience what volunteering at your Church can mean to you and your parish family.

Save The DateStewardship Weekend at our Tri-Parish Church Community is November 11th & 12th. The theme for this years celebration is “In Jesus’ Name: Be Bold”.
