Instead of sending it out to every individual that asks, I decided to write up the free pattern. I have also added a gauge to this pattern, as I will with all future patterns on Heart Hook Home that require it. Please check your gauge before continuing on to the pattern.

I have had many requests for a child size version of our Messy Mom Bun Beanie. Instead of sending it out to every individual that asks, I decided to write up the free pattern. I have also added a gauge to this pattern, as I will with all future patterns on Heart Hook Home that require it. Please check your gauge before continuing on to the pattern.

Gauge: 15 dc stitches and 9 rows = 4” square To test: ch17, dc in third ch from hook and in each across. Ch2, turn. Continue with dc rows until you have nine rows of dc. Measure Is it 4” x 4”? Square is too small? Go up a hook size. Square too large? Go down a hook size. Materials: Size (4) yarn (worsted weight) about 100 yards Crochet hook in size H (5 mm) Notes and Special Stitches: The ch2 and ch1 that begin the rows do NOT count as stitches. Start the new row in the same st as join. An average circumference of a child’s head varies greatly. I’ve found in my research that children aged 3 6 years old should have an approximate head circumference of 18” If you would like to use a hair band to start, simply replace row 1 with the hair band and crochet around it for row 2. Fpdc This is treated as a double crochet, except that instead of going into the next stitch, instead you hook the post directly below said stitch, front to back . Then complete the double crochet as normal. Bpdc This is treated as a double crochet, except that instead of going into the next stitch, instead you hook the post directly below said stitch, back to front . Then complete the double crochet as normal. There is a video tutorial for this brim on our blog: Heart Hook Home Messy Mom Bun Beanie Pattern. Pattern: Finished measurements: about 18” in circumference, 6.5” tall. If making for a 7 10 year old, go up to an I (5.5 mm) hook. For child size (3 6 year old) Row 1: Ch20, join using a sl st being careful not to twist the chain (20) Row 2: ch2, *dc in first st, 2dc in next* repeat around, join to top of first dc. (30) Row 3: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc (30) Row 4: Ch2, *dc in first two sts, 2dc in next* repeat around, join to top of first dc. (40) Row 5 Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc. (40) Row 6: Ch2, *dc in first three sts, 2dc in next* repeat around, join to top of first dc. (50) Row 7: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc. (50) Row 8: Ch2, *dc in first four sts, 2dc in next* repeat around, join to top of first dc. (60) Row 9: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc. (60) ***stop and check sizing. It should fit crown of head (about 6.5” across when flat) and will increase as length is added.*** Row 10: Ch2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc (60) Row 11: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc (60)

Row 12: Ch2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc (60) Row 13: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc (60) Row 14: Ch2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc (60) Row 15: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc (60) Row 16: Ch2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc (60) Row 17: Ch1, sc in each st around. Join to top of first sc (60) Row 18: Ch2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc (60) ***stop and check length; it should be around 5.5” tall before brim is added Row 19: Ch2, *fpdc around first post, bpdc around next* repeat around, join to top of first fpdc. Row 20: Ch2, *fpdc around first post, bpdc around next* repeat around, join to top of first fpdc. *repeat round 20 if added length is desired* Row 21: Ch1, sc in each st around.
