Banksy is a pseudonymous English Graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter.

Though he began his work in Bristol, his works of art can be found all over the world.

He put his art on easily visible places, like walls and bridges.

Bunting Boy

This protest image was painted on the side of a store in Wood Green, London, in the wake of rioting in the capital in 2011.

It is believed to have been a statement about the capitalism and the use of sweatshops to produce memorabilia ahead of the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Listening In

This unconfirmed Banksy caused a stir after appearing in Cheltenham.

It is thought to be a political protest based on the GCHQ intelligence service's presence in the town and depicts shadow figures eavesdropping on radio signals.

Mobile Lovers

This work was drawn on the side of the Broad Plain Boys Club in Bristol in

2014

The work depicts a couple embracing while checking their mobile phones

Waiting

Banksy created this artwork in New York City in 2013

This work depicts a man, in a tux, holding a bunch of flowers as though he had just been stood up on the shutters of Larry Flynt's strip joint, the Hustler Club in Manhattan.

Reports from America stated the New York Police Department were tracking the artist across the city during his six-month residency there.

Stay Clean

This is Banksy’s most expensive and most famous work.

It was sold at an auction in New York for $1.87 million.

It is an adaptation of an original Damien Hirst painting and first appeared as the 'Sweeping it Under the Carpet' mural in Camden in 2006.

Reflection

Overall, I really enjoyed making the presentation. I was able to research a world renowned artist, Banksy, who has pieces of art displayed publicly all over the world. The extreme use of symbolism in his artworks makes me respect the kind of graffiti he makes. In fact, it’s not really graffiti at all, it’s all really awesome, respectable artwork that’s out in the public, for anyone and everyone to see at all times. Though what Banksy does is considered against the law, I believe that his specific works have enough meaning behind them to justify his actions. I’ve definitely been inspired by his work, and hope I can create some similar artworks in this class before the school year comes to an end.
