Do you feel curious about making your own sprite? With this

tutorial you'll get a little easier, but remember that it is mainlya practical matter. Thanks to Chaindog, author of the tutorial, notes step by stepall the techniques and tips to make your own sprite, we mayeven add to the gallery if you want =)

For the tutorial, Chaindog chosen Heihachi, the famous fighting gameTekken. If you make a character in any game or series, you should look

for images on it to get a clearer idea of how to do it, you can pose your original inventartea ... myriad things.

So, Get in on the tutorial!

It covers my losttime in trivial

matters

We'll start by creating a palette. Looking at pictures, you

can find out about which colors you need. And since we live

in 2005 and I'm so lazy, I'll use the typical limit of 16colors. Please note that you never use pure black (#

000000). There are programs and engines that can take it

as a transparent color.

If you think the colors do not convince you, while you canalways change the sprite.

2 heads common

We start with the contour of the head. On the left we have

the typical male head and the right female. Practically the

only difference are the eyes, but depending on the type ofcharacter you need to make changes.

In almost all human characters, these are the heads thatuse

Happy face, angryface ...

Once you've decided which one to use, which should nottake more than a few minutes in the worst case (...) beginto detail. In most cases, there is not much to do, as the

normal head is fine. Unfortunately, the case of Heihachi is

not so simple.

After coloring the inside of the head with skin color, editthe chin to make it appear more pointed. Then the

eyebrows a little bigger, and added 2 pixels color withdarker eyes, so that it appears to have few friends face, which kicks in my opinion.

"I'm not the DoctorWilly"

In the previous step does not even seem much huh? Since

the sprites of this size are rarely focused on the expressionof the face, almost all attention is focused on the hair (inthis case, the mustache too)

Because this character is something old, a little faceaccentuated by the eyebrows a little bigger.

lmao - ^

Now that we have defined the face, we can start with thebody. I did a quick sketch of the pose of a fighter Heihachi.

Most important for this step is to clear the pose.

Now many will ask what happens to all those garish colors, right? I use them to more easily recognize the different

parts of the body in stimulating. If you use a single tone,

some problems may arise.

But as we will not cheer or anything, we can continue tothe next step.

Hey, got youlooking!

This part is complicated, I'm not very good with theproportions. Fortunately, it was not too bad. Look as I

added all clothing, bracelets, shoes etc..

Also, attention to the clothing that is between the legs. Igave a darker color to the feeling of depth.

"It looks a littleworse Chaindog .."

Muerdeme

Returning to the head, added the darker color on theedges of the hair and pull hair from the eyebrows.

Hey, it starts toresemble human

Time shading. I took the intermediate color between the

skin and the outline, and began to give depth to the faceand hair. He also added a lighter pixel on the chin, so that

resaslte more.

He represents thepower mustache!

Not much to explain here. Just added the brighter colors to

give even more depth to the face and hair.

It is a handsomeguy

Here we have so far. It looks pretty good I think, yet to be

done.

There are 2 things that I focus on this type of sprites, thehead and hands. Since the first and we have, we started

with the other.

Look girls, noalliance. Get him!

This is one of the most complicated part. The hands are

very detailed for something so small, cost me 3 attempts toseem decent.

The total amount of fingers does not matter, it isimpossible to get the 5, but usually are drawn 3 and thethumb, which is the most important since it separated fromthe others, defines a lot of hands.

These hands weremade to play

Shadow hands may be complicated if you do not know. To

appear more natural, you need to know where it focuseslight, and thus accentuate it.

Then, as the face, adds more brilliant color, and you'refinished.

A few pixels make

We now turn to describe the body. The chest and arms are

very simple, so we use the color of the contour forshaping.

To learn to do this properly, there is no choice but to learnsomething about human anatomy. Peronalmente, I learned

by looking at hundreds and hundreds of sprites, mostlyfrom Capcom. The website of Fighters Generation has a

significant amount of sprites to study.

a difference

Hooray!

As we did with head and hands up to shade the body. As I

said before, it is important to know anatomy to find shademuscles. A good reference for a sprite like this could be

Sagat from Street Fighter.

Here, shaded clothes.

Wrinkles are notour friends

You see as the pants are lit only from above? The focus of

the light as coming from above, does not illuminate thebottom of the pants, it will be a darker color.

Wrinkling of the clothing also needs some learning, issomething you need to practice and practice, but basicallythe wrinkles are produced from a point of tension, andthen create wrinkles.

Have we finished?NO

As usual, lights to illuminate the clothes, remember torespect the light foxo to be consistent. Also as I look all

that remained lit, feet, bracelets ...

We are almost finished, now the final touches

"Hey, you forgotyour scar!" Again

.... muerdeme.

As seen in the design of Heihachi, his pants havemotivated us in the bottom, also small chains.

Choose to give details and which does not depend on you.The reason that the reason for the draw escoji pants butnot the scar on his chest is simple. The trousers were really

simple as they were, while ke chest is already very detailedand serious lot.

Done! We have our own crazy old sprite Heihachi. The

reason that I have put the black background is to highlightthe palette, which is very good.
