COASTWATCHSALTWATER COAST NEWS

Goodbye summer, hello autumn! There’s just something about Saltwater Coast's numerous parks that looks especially beautiful when draped in vibrant reds, yellows and browns of this time of year. Take a walk.

PEDESTRIAN & CYCLING TRACKSAutumn is the perfect time for cycling and walking and Saltwater Coast has some fantastic tracks suitable for all levels of fitness. Right now, you can cycle or walk to the surrounding community and enjoy the natural parkland but detailed planning and design is underway for a new Bay Trail.

This will connect Point Cook Homestead to Sanctuary Lakes via Saltwater Coast providing a wonderfully scenic walk or ride. We will keep you updated on its progress.

SALTWATER COAST NEIGHBOURHOOD SHOPPING PRECINCTHaving a great shopping precinct at your door is certainly going to be convenient. But even better – as a result of the informal Planning and Design Session held with residents on February 20, Architects Clarke Hopkins & Clarke will be designing it around the things you’d like to see in your local shopping centre. Hopefully you attended and are excited by what you heard, but if you missed the meeting, we'll provide updates as they become available.

We'll keep you updated on the planning, design and construction progress as it unfolds.

BOOKING THE AMPHITHEATREThe fully powered Amphitheatre provides Saltwater Coast residents with an ideal venue for children’s birthday parties, family gatherings, celebrations, or even to put on your own show! So if you are planning something during these beautiful Autumn months, simply book it in advance through the Saltwater Coast Lifestyle Centre Manager.

Please contact us on 8353 8882 or via email [email protected] to arrange a booking.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOURS: SUJI SANJEEVAN Meet Suji Sanjeevan, Saltwater Coast resident, new mum and maker of beautiful Soy Wood wick candles through her company Light & Glo Designs.

‘Of course we were first attracted to Saltwater Coast because of its location. But what made it really attractive to us, was the strong sense of community spirit, tranquillity and the way the developers have thought of everything. We have a little boy and one of the perks is being close to beautiful parks.

The school has just opened, there’s childcare and the Lifestyle Centre is a great little community hub- especially with the gym and café there. It brings everyone together – we had our own Carols in the Park at Christmas. It’s a great place to live because you wake up every day to picturesque scenes.’

If you would like to feature in the next Meet Your Neighbour Profile, please contact Rocky Chen on [email protected]

COAST CAFÉThe Café’s central location in the Lifestyle Centre makes it the perfect place to catch up with family and friends for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Enjoy great coffee, a modern menu with something to tempt everyone – and you must try our delicious, homemade slices and cookies.

Opening hours: 8am-5pm, 7 days a week.

CROCODILE PARK ETIQUETTEWe know the benefits a sprinkle of Vitamin D can bring and how important it is to get the kids off the couch and into some healthy outdoors activities. It’s why completing the Crocodile Park was one of our priorities.

Now that it’s open, we’d like to make it as safe and friendly as we can for everyone, so here are some helpful hints.

• Do not allow dogs within 15m of the water play.

• Do not take glass into the park.

• Please, no dumping of sand into the water.

• Take your rubbish home with you.

• Be considerate, clean the BBQ’s after you have used them.

• Don’t feed the birds, because some of them don’t eat what we eat and we want to keep them healthy.

RUBBISH DUMPINGWe’re very proud of our master-planned community and the great environment it provides for your family. So let’s work together to keep it clean and litter free. Dumping litter in the municipality is illegal and that includes litter from a vehicle dumped onto a public reserve, nature strip or road.

To report dumped litter, please contact Wyndham City by on 9742 0777, completing the Online Request Form, use the Snap Send Solve app to contact Wyndham City Council or go to the EPA Litter website:

COMMUNITY CENTRESet to open mid-2016, the Community Centre will be a real focus point for Saltwater Coast residents, with a whole range of social and recreational services planned – including a kindergarten and maternal and child health clinic. Conveniently located within the hub of Saltwater Coast, the Centre will have a well-equipped community kitchen and another outdoor Amphitheatre for family or sporting events. To encourage community involvement, we’d love to hear your ideas for activities or services – or just how you might help.

Don’t wait for it to open, contact us now at: Community Centre, 153 Saltwater Promenade, Point Cook. Ph: 9742 0777 E: [email protected]

MIGRATORY BIRDSPoint Cook has long been recognised for its abundant bird life. More than 200 species have been recorded to date, with 34 species covered by international migratory agreements. And these are all in your neighbourhood!

Kids will love the adventure of watching them from the vantage point of The Spectacle Lake bird hide, but the beach at low tide and the beach picnic area are also great bird watching sites.
