The Friends of Long Island Wrestling is proud to introduce the WRESTLING takes down DRUGS campaign, which will benefit local wrestling programs and local drug prevention and counseling programs in order to strengthen the communities in which we live. The Opportunity for Coaches: You can help YOUR own Wrestling Program and Your Community’s local center for drug counseling services at the same time. Coaches who raise money through the sale of WTDD merchandise within their own communities can have prots earmarked for their local wrestling programs.     What Can We Do?Promote the bene)ts of wrestling andthe awareness of drug addiction at thesame time!Raise awareness in students BEFOREthey ever try drugs - it is the greatestantidote to addiction.Work together to take back ourcommunities from the devastation ofdrug addiction through education,lobbying, and assistance e�orts.

    How Can We Do It?The Friends of Long Island Wrestling isintroducing the “Wrestling Takes DownDrugs” campaign to help combat theopioid and substance abuse epidemicsweeping through our communities.

    FOLIW will donate pro�ts from allWTDD merchandise and donationsto both local wrestling programsand community based counselingand drug prevention programs.

    The Challenge:Long Island is in crisis with the fast-growing problem of drug addiction, whereopioids of all kinds have killed at least 494people on Long Island alone in 2016. Every geographic area and socio-economicclass is a�ected.Drug & alcohol addiction is now the 3rdlargest cause of death in the U.S. afterheart disease and cancer. Over 22 million Americans su�er fromaddiction – a�ecting over 100 millionfamily members.

    The Cause:52 million people have used prescriptionpain-killers (opioids) for non-medicalpurposes in the U.S. Nearly 80% ofAmericans using heroin reported misusingprescription opioids prior to using heroin.The U.S. is comprised of 4.6% of the world’spopulation, but consumes 80% of theworld’s opioids. Opioid overdose is nowthe #1 cause of accidental death in the U.S.

    The Victims:Students & Young Adults:

    On Long Island, gangs are targeting highschools as distribution centers for heroinand other addictive drugs. Illegal drugnetworks are getting more e�ective withdistribution – reaching formerly safestudent-athletes. To help combat the growing teenaddiction, Nassau’s District Attorneypledged $2 million towards addictiontreatment centers for adolescents betweenthe ages of 13 – 17.
