TheadvancedprocesscanbeadaptedintomanyproductcategorieswiththefirsttwoindustrialapplicationsinwoodtechnologybeingTitusonic®cabinetfastening(SonicRivet)andTitusonic®HollowCoreBoard(HCB)fastening,jointlydevelopedwithandlicensedfromWoodWeldingSA,Switzerland.
Ultrasonic process WhenusingtheWoodWelding®processultrasonicenergyofapproximately20.000cyclespersecondisapplied.Addingpressuretotheprocess,theliquifiedplasticconnectorelementisforcedintothewoodutilisingthenaturalporosityofmostwoodbasedmaterialssuchaschipboard,MDF,HDFandplywood.Mostsolidwoodscanalsobeusedwiththisprocess,whichtakesonlysecondstocomplete.
Traditionallywoodproductsarejoinedtogetherusingmechanicalfastenerssuchaswoodendowelsandglue,screwsorotherconnectingfittings.Howeverthesemethodsproducetheirownproblems,whicharelargelyresolvedbytheuseofWoodWelding®technology.Ittakesfasteningofwoodproductsintothe21stcenturywithaprocesswhichcanbelikenedtoweldingofsteelincarmanufactureandshipbuilding.

Pre-assemble the cabinetand place it into the press
Pressureisappliedtothejointwhilsttheultrasonicenergyisactivated.Theprocesstimeisabout1-2secondsduringwhichtimetheplasticdowelmeltsonlyattheendsandtheplasticintegrateswiththechipsintheparticleboardsothatitbondstheboardstogether.
Ultrasonic energy bondsthe boards together
Thereisthenaveryshortdwelltimeofabout2secondswhenthedowelshrinksinlengthsoastoprovideanadditionalclampingforce(pullingtogetherofthejoint).Thecabinetcanthenexitthepressandisatfullstrengthsoitcanbehandledinanormalwayandindeedinstantlypackedanddespatchedtothecustomer.
