Proper storage of elastomers
Some elastomer parts are stored for long periods. This can affect product
quality. Changes are the result of individual or combined influences of special factors, such as
deformation, oxygen, ozone, light, heat, moisture, oils and solvents. For this reason,
precautions must be taken to ensure that the service life will not be considerably shortened
by incorrect storage. Storage and the recording of time in storage is governed by ISO 2230 and
DIN 7716.
Heat
> Storage temperature of elastomers should preferably be between +5 °C and 25 °C. > Direct contact with heat sources (such as radiators) or direct sunlight should be avoided. > Storage at low temperatures can cause elastomers to harden. In this temperature range, therefore, moulded parts must be handled with great care to avoid deformations.
Moisture
> Relative humidity in storage areas should be below 70%. Avoid extremely wet or dry conditions. No condensation should be present.
Light, ozone
> Elastomer parts should be stored away from light sources and ozone. In particular, direct sunlight or strong artificial light containing an ultraviolet band should be avoided. The use of individual containers, especially plastic bags, is preferred, provided they are UV-protected.
Deformation
> Elastomer components should be stored free of compressions or deformations and in an unbent state. Items delivered in an unbent state should be kept in their original packaging.
Contact with liquids or grease
> Moulded elastomer parts should not come into contact during storage with solvents, oils or grease, if not already so packed by the manufacturer.
Contact with metal and non-ferrous metals
> Direct contact with certain metals such as manganese, iron, copper and its alloys, e.g. brass, damages some elastomers and should be avoided during storage. > Due to the potential for plasticiser migration or migration of other components, elastomers should not be stored in contact with PVCs.
Length of storage and inspection (empirical values)
The useful life of elastomeric products depends to a considerable degree on the type of elastomer. If the above-mentioned recommendations for storage are observed, the various elastomers can be stored for the times given below:
AU, EU, BR, SBR, NR, thermoplastics 4 yearsNBR, HNBR, CR 6 yearsEPDM 8 yearsFKM, SI, SI-FS 10 years
After the specified time, moulded elastomer parts should be inspected. An extension of shelf life is then possible. Elastomer parts and components less than 1.5 mm thick are more susceptible to attack by oxidation, even when stored under ideal conditions as recommended. The inspection interval should therefore be shorter than indicated above.

Flat and bellows vacuum cups – Series SM-P / SM-T
Product Description
Flat and bellows vacuum cups of oil-resistant NBR for handling metal sheets. Distinct radially extending cleats prevent “deep drawing” of the product as well as any slipping of oily sheets (Type SM-P). The firmly bolted fitting (from Ø 20 mm) provides a secure seating.Cups typ SM-T is usually installed as a suction plate. It has a special fitting with built-in orifice restriction. This prevents the overall loss of vacuum should some of the cups become uncovered. The deep design of the fitting results in a support that clearly defines the vacuum cup stroke.

Sheet metal handling | Vacuum cupsLow-leak suction plates - Series SPLT
Low-leak suction plates - Series SPLT
Sucker plate 67.010
Product Description Advantage
Combination of 4x4 or 6x6 bellows suction cups with 2.5 bellows in oil resistant NBR.Suction plate suspended using a spring leveler with internal vacuum channel (25 mm stroke). Off-center vacuum connection possible.
> Reliable suction with variable product geometries
Application:
Low-leak suction plates are used wherever product variations or perforation could cause a lack of contact with the product surface during suction (e.g. laser cutters).Ordinary vacuum cups would draw in large quantities of excess air when not in contact with the product. This would cause the entire vacuum circuit to collapse, and other suction cups in the circuit would drop the product. The flow limits used in the SPLT series reduce leakage to a degree that allows the central vacuum unit to maintain an acceptable vacuum level in the circuit.

Sheet metal handling | Vacuum generationEjectors with air saving function EMA
Ejectors with air saving function EMADouble energy efficient by integrated pressure control and electronic air saving function
Energy saving ejector EMA.90X14-NC-AVA with bellows vacuum cup and workpiece
Product Description
> Used in sheet metal proccessing, e.g. pressing plants > Handling of dense workpieces > Integrated electronic air-saving system (LSA)- Reduces operating costs from 60 up to 97% with dense workpieces- Automatically adjusts to workpiece type (activiation with dense workpieces, deactivation with higher porosity or uneven surfaces)
> Integrated pressure control- Automatic pressure regulation to 3,5 bar constant- Significantly reduces operating costs up to 50 % also with porous workpieces- Air saving potential increases with difference between supply pressure and operation pressure
> Available versions normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) > Reduced sound level through integrated open silencer ( ~ 68 dBA without automatic air-saving system, ~ 0 dBA with active automatic air-saving system) > Dirt-proof construction, no filter required > Easy setting via keyboard, operational status and fault detection via display
Note
Version NC:If the ejector experiences power failure, the workpiece is only held by the vacuum between non-return valve and product surface. Vacuum and blow-off are controlled using a single signal.Version NO:Higher security, the vacuum continues to be generated during power failure and this holds the workpiece in place

1. Gripping of the itemThe vacuum-solenoid valve b starts the cycle Venturi tubes c are supplied with compressed air and generate the vacuum to grip the item quickly with the suction gripper -> short-term energy consumption.
2. Operations on the suctioned itemThe vacuum level is continually monitored by the vacuum switch f. When the vacuum threshold limit V1 (65%) is reached the signal “Item suctioned” is triggered. This gives a green light for the scheduled operation (transfer, processing etc.). If the vacuum reaches the threshold limit V2 (75%), the compressed air supply to the Venturi tubes via the solenoid valve e is interrupted. Energy consumption falls to nil. The item remains suctioned because of the vacuum that remains because of the closed non-return valve. Tiny leakages often lead to a slow release of the vacuum. If the vacuum falls to the threshold limit of 65%, a new vacuum is briefly generated, i.e. until the threshold limit V2 (75%) is reached.
3. Depositing of the workpieceAt the end of the procedures blow-off is triggered. The blow-off valve h generates an air jet that closes the blocking valve °. This blows off the item using the air pressure regulator i so that it can be deposited more quickly.

> Automatic air-saving system activation allows a larger tube diameter to grip more quickly without increased consumption.
Air Saving control cycle self-adaptation (LSA)
Cycle 1: Deals with an air tight product under the influence of LSA, resulting in optimum energy savings.
Cycle 2: The porous product generates leaks that provoke repeated intermittent vacuum regeneration. The anomaly is automatically detected, and the cycle goes on but without LSA. A LSA missing signal is then emitted and displayed, and production goes on.
Cycle 3: Illustrates the automatic return to the LSA cycle as soon as leaks are eliminated: air tight products, vacuum circuit maintenance.
The compact-ejektor EMA thus provides the maximum energy saving, without any limitations to the performance and functioning of the overall production system.

Multi-chamber ejectorsHigh suction power for fast vacuum build up in particular with porous workpieces
Application example: Multi-chamber ejector with vacuummeter 91.001 (mounting on front or rear side)
Application example multi-chamber ejector 65.340-LSE with air saving function
Product Description
> Used in sheet metal proccessing, e.g. body shell > High efficiency level for maximum vacuum at low pressures, and thus particularly efficient use of compressed air as well as suitability for fluctuating air pressure Levels
> Handling of air-permeable products, or for high leakage > High suction power for short evacuation times and fast vacuum build-up > Noise-optimized operation due open silencer > Industries: for example, packaging and printing industry
Air saving function LSE > Saving compressed air during handling of vacuum-tight products > Examples of application:Automatic switching off of vacuum generation during pick-and-place applications of vacuum-tight workpieces if, e.g. downstream processes are delayedSaving compressed air when using the multi-chamber ejectors for feeding vacuum tanks
Notes
Construction/operation LSE: > Combination of pneumatic control valve with spring return and normally closed (NC) pneumatic vacuum switch > Setting target vacuum values by means of setting screw > The compressed air is conveyed through the valve to the compressed-air inlet of the injector; there is a partial airflow at input 1 of the vacuum switch. > When the set target vacuum is reached, the vacuum switch opens, the compressed air from input 1 is conducted to the control valve via output 2 and closes this – the vacuum generation is now stopped
> If the vacuum sinks to the hysteresis value (see table), the vacuum switch closes again and the spring effect opens the control valve – vacuum generation is activated again
> Please note: The air-saving function does not work with air-permeable products, or in the case of high leakage
Ordering notes
> Seals are available in NBR as standard > Seals are optionally available in EPDM or Viton upon request > Delivery includes two mounting brackets and G1/4“-AG - Ø 10 mm push-in fitting for compressed air connection
