(1) minimum thickness for the DS range

The S/DS range benefits of the ATV's long experience in industrial brakes, and reflects the state of the art in the field of emergency braking. These brakes are fail-safe, the clamping force is thus produced by spring washers, while the brake release occurs by means of an hydraulic pressure. These brakes provide emergency braking functions, generally on the low speed shaft of a drive. They so prevent every accident caused by a breakage in the drivetrain, by acting closest to the load, for instance on a brake disc which is flange-mounted on a hoist drum. This complete range may be fitted with an hydraulic power pack, factory piped and wired. These executions with integrated power pack (SHCI version) provide to the crane builder and the end-user as well a factory tested, reliable and autonomous product. The braking force can be factory adapted, over a setting range spreading out from 60 to 100% of the nominal value. Two types of brake assembly are available : The DS brakes are constituted of two half-calipers facing each other. The central bracket is fixed, the pad gap is maximized. These brakes can be adapted to any disc thickness. The S brakes are floating calipers constituted of one half-caliper and a slide movable on its bracket. For a given size, the S version provides the same force as a DS one. This caliper can so follow the disc axial run-out, either due to its own manufacturing tolerance or to its thermal and under load deformation. This solution makes it possible to optimize the sizing of emergency brakes for heavy-load cranes or for big diameter discs, while avoiding an early wear of the brake linings.
