C. G. Jung: shadows are the suppressed or unconscious part of the personality.

The shadow is so to say the dark side of the personality, lying in the shadow.

The personal unconscious consists of all that, which is incompatible with the conscious identifications of the self.

Without conscious dealing with this unconscious shadow it is only perceived outside the self and is therefore often projected onto others.

„The shadow not only comprises our personal shadow and thus it is not only our personal concern. Shadows exist in all relations in whom we live, in the individual and in the collective”. (Verena Kast)

The collective unconscious / the collective shadows are shared by a greater number of people and result from their common history.

An unconscious transgenerational transmission is scientifically proven.

All human beings individually and collectively strive after greatness.

This greatness can be oriented towards a variety of criteria: it may be power, material and social status, popularity, wisdom.

Now there is greatness with more or less shadow.

Minimum greatness and maximum shadow describe deepest human misery.

Greatness with lots of shadows exhibit e.g. Hitler or Stalin and also not prominent figures like commanding bandit chiefs.

In the best position - greatness with little shadows - there are prominent examples like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King jr. and also not famous wise people, in whose presence one is feeling unconditionally well.

Human greatness “automatically” causes great/deep feelings in other people.

Greatness touches! It is impossible that somebody has worked

up and integrated all his/her shadows and still is “small”.

Little shadows or even lack of shadows lead to high greatness.

This means that shadow-work alone is sufficient to achieve greatness.
