What is Scan & Toss®ID™?

• ID stands for “Inventory Director”• Your perpetual inventory order is sent from your

Pharmacy Management System, or PMS (such as RX30), and processed via the Scan & Toss®ID™ file server program

• The Scan & Toss®ID™ program goes through your order file and pulls brand RX and OTCs, plus pulls and converts generic RX that the API warehouse has available and sends it through to API for processing

What is Scan & Toss®ID™?

• The remaining portion of the order is sent to Cardinal Health for fulfillment

• If API runs out of inventory on any items during the warehouse inventory allocation process, Scan & Toss®ID™ will send those order shorts over to Cardinal Health as well

• Once all orders are processed, Scan & Toss®ID™ will forward 855 inventory documents for both API and Cardinal Health to your PMS for inventory upload

Scan & Toss®ID™ example order (8 lines)

• Of the 8 lines ordered, 5 were available from the API warehouse; in this case, 2 brand RX and 1 generic directly, and 2 items were switched to API generics by Scan & Toss®ID™

• Items that were not available or could not be converted to API generics were sent straight through to Cardinal Health

• One item that ran short during API inventory allocation and order fulfillment was also forwarded to Cardinal Health

What does the pharmacy have to do to take advantage of Scan & Toss®ID™ ?

• Simply change the naming convention in your perpetual ordering system so that all files, regardless of order number type, go to API (must be set up by your PMS service provider)

• RX30 has this naming convention in place• Set up a Cardinal Scan &Toss® (CST) account number• Set all items in your PMS to Cardinal primary• AAP will do the rest—no change of program/systems

required• And Scan & Toss®ID™ is FREE to AAP members and

API warehouse customers!
