LABELS AND PLACARDS

WARNING: LABELS AND PLAC-ARDS ARE PROVIDED AS A REMINDEROF SOME IMPORTANT FEATURES,“DO’S” AND “DON’TS” OF OPERATIONAND SERVICING. LABELS AND PLAC-ARDS MUST NEVER BE REMOVEDFROM THE UNDERSIDE OF TUB.

BEFORE INSTALLATION . . . Inspect yourLaurel Mountain Whirlpool, Inc. Bath thor-oughly upon receiving it. Check it immediatelyfor a possibility of freight damage. In the eventdamage has occurred, make a notation on thecarrier’s bill of lading.

DO NOT remove the bath from its shippingcontainer until you are ready to pre-test andinstall. When opened, cut some of the ship-ping cardboard to fit in the bottom of the tubto help protect the floor surface. DO NOT LIFTthe tub out of the box by its plumbing.

• One of the many phases of quality assur-ance at our plant, prior to shipping, is an ex-haustive water test to ensure water-tight op-eration. Enroute, rough freight handling couldconceivably have loosened a connection. Placethe tub in an area where it may be drained af-ter testing it. Fill it and operate with water tothe overflow and then allow to sit for fifteenminutes. Inspect all fittings, apertures andconnections for the possibility of leaks.

• Examine the bathtub thoroughly. Any de-fect must be discovered and reported AT THISTIME in order to qualify for our warranty cov-erage.

• All connections, electrical and plumbingMUST be made by qualified electricians andplumbers. They can assure you that the in-stallation will conform to all applicable localcodes as well as securing necessary permitsfor the installation.

• Please regard all warning labels attached tothe bath. DO NOT LIFT by any portion of theplumbing--or stand in the unit during installa-tion--serious damage may occur to the unit.

FRAMING-IN INSTRUCTIONSThe dimensions in our literature may vary

slightly in the actual product measurement. Therefore, installation measurements shouldbe made directly from your bathtub.

IMPORTANT: The entire weight of the tub can-not be supported by the rim. The tub must besupported by the base and sub-floor.

IMPORTANT: For best installation results, it issuggested to install the unit using a mortar bedor equivalent material.

When you install the drain fitting, you willfind it protrudes below the bottom of the tub.Allow clearance in the sub-floor for this dimen-sion.

Place the unit in its desired location, checkthe tub and sub-floor for level, if not level, placewood shims between sub-floor and supportlegs to bring to a level position. Mark studwall underneath the tub’s return lip. Removeunit from position and install a 1x stop to studwall for lip to rest on to prevent deflection.

Check your unit at this time to see if anywiring should be completed prior to further in-stallation. (See wiring instructions.) If the floor

is out of level, the tub support legs will haveto be shimmed. We suggest setting the tubinto a bed of concrete.

If all is level, reposition the unit in the de-sired location.

Since a great variety of installations are pos-sible with this Whirlpool Bath, special framingprocedures may have to be employed. A ledgeunder the rim, or an apron without a ledge, may be constructed as required. Where in-stallation is planned against a wall, install thetub against the studs as indicated, addingblocking below the rim to prevent deflectionor movement of the tub, but insuring that thetub is not supported in any way by the block-ing.

The opening should be 1” smaller than thespecified rim dimensions when placing the unitin a platform floor or cut out installation.

A 1” integral up-flange is available on cer-tain models. These units should be placed in apre-measured studded pocket. Pre-drill holesthrough flange to align with studs. Use screwsto secure to studs. NOTE: Do not attempt tonail directly through flange. Always pre-drillholes.

In each installation, an access panel mustbe provided near the final pump location forservicing the pump and power panel. This ac-cess may be through the wall or platformapron. In the case of a sunken installation, access may be through the ceiling below thebathtub.

OPTIONAL: POP-OUT SKIRTINSTALLATION NOTE: The skirt is to be installed immedi-ately after the plumbing and electrical workhave been completed. Do not wait until thedrywall has been completed, as the skirt is thesame length as the tub.1. Remove pop-out panel from skirt frame. Do not use metal objects to pry off the panel. (See diagram.)2. Place skirt frame under tub rim into cor- rect placement.3. Mark top and bottom inside of skirt frame at center.4. Remove skirt frame.5. Place 1x or 2x vertical support at center of tub, just touching inside marks from skirt frame.6. Place skirt frame back under tub.7. Anchor ends of skirt frame to studs through corner bead and anchor bottom of skirt frame to the sub floor.8. Place pop-out panel on skirt frame.9. Finish drywall--flooring.

WIRING INSTRUCTIONSRough in the wiring on a single 120VAC, 20AMP, GFCI protected dedicated circuit for eachaccessory installed on the tub.

All Whirlpool Systems and Inline Heaters areequipped with a molded plug on the end of apower supply cord.

IMPORTANT WARNING:ALL POWER SUPPLIES MUST BE DIS-CONNECTED BEFORE SERVICING.

OPTIONAL: INLINE HEATERWIRING (See Diagram A-2)

IMPORTANT: Electric inline heaters are con-trolled by a “pressure switch,” which is pre-plumbed into the heater. This switch allowsthe heater to operate only when there is suffi-cient water flowing through the system. DONOT BYPASS THE SWITCH. This option isequipped with a molded plug on the end of apower supply cord. Check your local codes, simply install a 120VAC, 20AMP GFCI pro-tected dedicated circuit wall outlet to within 1½ feet from the heater unit. Plug the cord into

the outlet.

This option is designed to MAINTAIN tempera-ture, but, will increase the temperature of thewater in the system to the factory preset highlimit switch of 104 degrees F over an extendedperiod of time. The high limit cannot be in-creased adjusting the heater thermostat. Theheater is operated by a pressure switch. Everytime the bath is turned on the heater will auto-matically turn on to MAINTAIN water tempera-ture. The heater tube will not feel hot until tem-perature of water is hot, as the flow of coolerwater will keep the jacket cool.

WARNING: ALL BATHTUBSEQUIPPED WITH AN INLINE HEATERREQUIRES TWO DEDICATED CIR-CUITS. ONE FOR THE WHIRLPOOLSYSTEM AND ONE FOR OPTIONALINLINE HEATER.

PLUMBING INSTALLATIONInstall fill valves and spout in the desired loca-tions. Be sure that the spout is long enoughto clear the interior rim of tub. If installingfiller valves on deck of tub, be sure that youhave enough clearance for connections ofvalve to tub and water connections before drill-ing or cutting into tub.

NOTE: Seal the joints under the tub rim andagainst the wall with a water resistant seal.NOTE: Install a standard 1½ in. trap to drainand overflow.

Before proceeding, make a final operationalcheck by filling the tub with water to the over-flow and operate for approximately 5 minutes.Leave the water in the bath for 30 minutes, check the connections for leaks during andafter operation.

NOTE: Complete the installation with a desiredtrim material on the back wall, side walls, anddown exposed interior walls.

DANGER: ALL CIRCUITS CON-NECTED TO THIS UNIT MUST BEEQUIPPED WITH GROUND FAULT CIR-CUIT INTERRUPTER (GFCI) PROTEC-TION. IT IS THE TUB INSTALLER’S RE-SPONSIBILITY TO WIRE THE CIRCUITWITH (GFCI) PROTECTION.

WARNING: ALL ELECTRICALCONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE BY ALICENSED CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN-IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIRE-MENTS OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICALCODE AND APPLICABLE STATE ANDLOCAL CODES AND PROCEDURES.

Install a separate, dedicated 120VAC, 20 AMPGFCI protected electrical wall plug outlet in-side the access panel for each accessoryequipped on the tub.

EXAMPLE: If the tub is equipped with a whirl-pool system only, then one GFCI wall plug out-let is necessary. If the tub is equipped withboth whirlpool system and an inline heater thentwo separate circuits with GFCI wall plug out-lets are required.

NOTE: Count the number of accessories be-fore installing the GFCI wall outlets.

NOTE: The power supply cords equipped withon each accessory are only 2½ ft. long so lo-cate the GFCI wall outlet within 1½ ft. of theintended accessory.

DANGER: DO NOT splice a longer cord to thepower supply cord and DO NOT connect to anextension cord.

The connection for each accessory is com-pleted simply by inserting the molded plug intothe intended GFCI wall outlet.
