Tuberculosis – A major cause of Morbidity and Mortality in India

In India, two deaths occur every three minutes from tuberculosis (TB). But these deaths are preventable. With proper care and treatment, the battle against TB can be won.

Do You Know That someone in the world is newly infected

with TB bacilli every second

Lacs of Indians are unaware that they have TB. Therefore detection is very important.

That every TB patient infects 10-15 new persons on an average every year.

The Vicious Circle

TB and poverty come together to perpetuate a vicious cycle.

Hazardous living conditions, both for patients and their families – including their children – make this disease uncontrolable.

Info in your hands…

To create awareness among Rotarians, informative brochures on TB are being sent to all clubs across the country.

The committee believes that more and more awareness and information will motivate Rotarians to make their contribution in this regard.

TB awareness and control is a colossal problem. When you see a handicapped person, you are immediately moved to help him but you might see a TB patient suffering severely and yet not know.

Page 17: In India 1000 people die of TB every day i.e about 4 lacs a year India accounts for one-fifth TB cases in the world. There are 8-9 lacs new cases

This is the irony of TB patients. There is a separate DDG TB with TB officers all over India but theirs is rather a sad story. Despite very heavy Govt. expenditure, we have 1 lac Multi Drug Resistant patients who are ever increasing. The cause is sheer neglection!

TB Control Program……

This is the irony of TB patients. There is a separate DDG TB with TB officers all over India. Despite very heavy Govt. expenditure, we have 1 lac Multi Drug Resistant patients who are ever increasing. They also need our special attention and support.

_________It is Rotary alone that can control and create awareness about TB. I whole heartedly appeal from this platform to make TB Control Programme a priority project of Rotary.

This project will save not thousands but hundreds of thousands of lives in our country, where it is on the rise. Let us come together now and make a difference. We can do it because we have done it in so many cases.

I heard Usha Ji yesterday. I am sure it will motivate all of us. I count upon each one of you to make India a TB free nation!
