TRANSCRIPT
Wallasey’s historic Liscard Hall, in the heart of Central Park, was demolished earlier this month after a fire started by yobs.
The Grade II Listed Building had been empty ever since the Government closed down ‘Serve Wirral Training’ to the young and unemployed.
Despite promises by the Council of using the Hall for ‘community use’, it remained vacant, falling into even worse condition.
Sadly, this gave the green light to increasing attacks by yobs and vandals. Many local residents have told how angry and upset they are with the Council’s neglect. Many have also commented on the Wirral Globe’s website.
The person responsible for the Hall is Cllr. Holbrook, a member of the Labour-led Cabinet. Leah Fraser was appointed on May 22nd to ‘Chair’ the committee that scrutinises his actions.
Leah said: “I have already written to Cllr. Holbrook with a number of questions. The Council’s neglect of this building is as bad as the actions of the yobs.”

Liscard Hall: Council neglect blamed by residents ‘Do nothing’ Council leads to dereliction and attack by arsonists

Cost of living rises
Angela Eagle announces big
rise in Road Tax
Nine million drivers set to pay up to £455
The planned rise in Road Tax is set to hit nine million drivers. Wallasey MP Angela Eagle is a member of Gordon Brown’s team at the Treasury and announced plans for the tax rise to the House of Commons. The big rise in Road Tax will apply to popular cars, such as Vauxhall Vectra, Zafira Honda CR-V. Even the Ford Focus will pay more.
Ms Eagle announced the biggest-ever rise in Road Tax to £455. More than 400,000 low paid are among those hit.
Local campaigner Leah Fraser said: “Our MPs, with their cushy expenses, are out of touch with the rise in the cost of living.
“These tax rises will be the final straw for many, not least the low paid. Angela Eagle must think again.”
Employers escape Minimum Wage
At a Council meeting earlier this month, it was revealed that some bars and restaurants are not sharing tips left by customers with staff.
Conservatives, along with councillors from other parties, backed a call for the Council to support the ‘Fair Tips Charter’ which would see all tips shared among staff. Local campaigner Leah Fraser said: “We discovered that the Minimum Wage Act allows employers to use tips to top up wages. If someone leaves a tip, they want it to go to the person who as given good service as an extra, not to subsidise the wage bill of the boss.”

Action Team out and about…
Poulton Road A big ‘thank you’ to those residents who have, so far, taken part in our doorstep surveys.
The Action Team is calling on people in Poulton and Seacombe every week. Last week, we were on Poulton Road and roads off, such as York Road. Leah Fraser, who leads the team each week, said: “There was concern among some residents about the new mobile phone mast that is up and running. And, of course, the usual complaints about litter.”

Kerb problems
Young mums and dads in Poulton and Seacombe are being asked to nominate kerbs which cause problems for prams and buggies.
People who disabled, elderly or in a wheelchair are also being asked for their views.
If you would like to see ‘dropped’ kerbs ( lowered to road level) to help you get across the road more easily and safely, let us know. Call 639 4195 or email us at [email protected]

Street cleaning
The Action Team has been in touch with the Council about the large amounts of litter and rubbish on streets in the area.
Biffa, the company paid by the Council to sweep the streets, is currently trying to improve the schedule of when streets are cleaned.
We’d like to know of any problems you have with the street cleaning. We will then contact Biffa on your behalf and see what they can do. The new schedule is due out soon, so hurry!

Alcohol sales
Conservatives are backing a new campaign to crack down on the places that sell alcohol to the under aged.
Many of the causes of anti social behaviour, particularly during the summer, are alcohol. Under 18s are being sold alcohol illegally and drinking it in public places, causing misery for other residents.
The new campaign encourages people to report places they suspect are selling the booze. Call 0845 404 0506.
