Worship Aid 1. Send Your Glory Down Dec. 15, 2019 O Radiant Light Divine, shine within this heart of mine; Word of God, dispel our darkness.

O image of the Light Sublime, our God Incarnate beyond me, that fills this place with heaven’s glory: Send your glory down, send your glory down, send your glory down!

Lord Jesus Christ, as daylight fades we give you thanks for all our days, the work the toil, the pain, the glory.

We praise the Father with the Son, the Spirit blest and with them one. We stand united as your fam’ly. O Son of God, the source of life, we give you praise both day and night, for you are worthy and most holy.

Unsullied lips must raise the strain of your proclaimed and splendid name: the Lamb of God, the King of Mercy.

2. Almost There Mary, full of innocence, carrying the Holy Prince, you’re almost there, you’re almost there.

Mother of the Living Word, trus ng in the voice you heard, you’re almost there, you're almost there.

You’re almost where the angels see redemp on’s plan unfolding. All hope is in the Son you’ll bear; you’re almost there.

A lonely road, a willing heart, prayer for strength to do your part; you’re almost there, you’re almost there.

Trust the Father to provide Bread of Heaven prophesied; you’re almost there, you’re almost there.

You’re almost where the wai ng ends, delivering the life within, the answered prayer, Emmanuel. You’re almost there.

You’re almost where the journey ends, where death will die and life begins, the answered prayer, Emmanuel; you're almost, almost there.

Pastoral Let ter

I love to think of Advent as a kind of “spiritual pregnancy.” Pregnancies are full of promise of good things to come, of new life, freshness, and new beginnings. We all know the mysterious and wonderful experiences that newborns bring. For parents, the birth of a child is the event of a lifetime. But, even if we are not parents, many of us have witnessed the birth of children, animals and even plants. I’m thinking now of the daffodils in my backyard that laid dormant underground during warm weather. By Thanksgiving, they finally surfaced to brighten their surroundings with their long, green stems and colorful yellow, white and purple flowers. All new life is a gift from God. None of it happens by accident. It is part of the grand design. Our own birth included. And all life takes time to come to fruition. It requires us to wait patiently, knowing that the waiting will be richly rewarded. For God never disappoints. Today’s second reading offers an example of patient waiting. Farmers sow seeds in the ground then let nature take its course. For us, Advent is a time of joyful waiting for the coming of the Christ child, not only into the world, but especially into our own life. This period of waiting is the perfect time for each of us to examine our lives so that we can make room in our own heart for the coming of the baby Jesus. SIMBANG GABI

“Simbang Gabi” a Filipino Christmas tradition. It is a series of nine (9) dawn Masses, and ends on the midnight of the 24th of December, which is the midnight Mass.

This tradition was introduced by the Spanish friars to allow the farmers to hear Mass before going to the fields early in the morning.

Simbang Gabi is also know by its popular Spanish name as the Misa de Gallo or “Mass of the rooster.” In the olden days, the Church bells started ringing as early as three o’clock waking people up so they were able to get ready for the four o’clock dawn Mass.

Come and join us as we celebrate the 9-day no-vena of Masses for Simbang Gabi.

Date: Thursday, December 19th Time: 6pm Choir, 6:30pm Mass Place: St. Joseph Church

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Building the Domestic Church While Strengthening our parish

What is the Domestic Church? It is believing that how you live your faith in your councils, families, parishes and community has a ripple effect that changes the world. It is the council, the family and the parish that knows that everything they do must be based in surrendering prayer. It describes the imperfect family and council who deliberately chooses to live contrary to what seems like a Godless world and says, “In our home, council and parish, we choose to live our faith.” It is the family and council who prays together, goes to Mass weekly, frequents the Sacrament of Confession and (because they realize they are powerless without God), deliberately avoids that which pollutes their minds and hearts. It is the imperfect, humble and joy-filled family and council that rarely preaches the faith because they are too busy living it.

Catholic Information Service (CIS) Since its founding, the Knights of Columbus has been involved in evangelization. In 1948, the Knights started the Catholic Information Service (CIS) to provide low-cost Catholic publications for the general public as well as for parishes, schools, retreat houses, military installations, correctional facilities, legislatures, the medical community, and for individuals who request them. For 70 years, CIS has printed and distributed millions of booklets, and thousands of people have enrolled in its catechetical courses.

Faith in Action Program Model The new program model takes its inspiration from the Building the Domestic Church initiative, and it greatly emphasizes the faith and spirituality of all Knights of Columbus. In other words, the foundation for this program model is the Building the Domestic Church initiative. Those councils that thoroughly implement the Faith in Action Program will be living and exemplifying the Domestic Church.

Be a Leader Take a leadership role in your council, your family and your parish in becoming the Domestic Church. It's what we signed up for as Knights of Columbus. By choosing to be Knights, we have chosen to be different from secular society and to live our faith boldly. Living as the Domestic Church is extremely effective. Throughout all of Judeo-Christian history, there has been nothing more effective at evangelizing the culture than regular, everyday people choosing to live their faith at home and in the public square. Salvation history was changed forever by a family.

Encourage your brother Knights to live the Supreme Chaplain's Monthly Challenge. It allows all Knights of Columbus to be united in a simple challenge each month to live their faith.

Make intentional choices based in prayer. Each time you choose to live your faith and refrain from activities that pull you away from God, you are living the Domestic Church. Teach others and exemplify that it is the family and council who prays together, goes to Mass weekly, frequents the Sacrament of Confession and (because they realize they are powerless without God), deliberately avoids that which pollutes their minds and hearts. (Knights of Columbus, 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510)

St. Joseph Catholic School Mission

St. Joseph Catholic School provides a distinguished academic education guided by our Catholic heritage. In the spirit of Christian collaboration, our School and Parish community grow together in Faith, Excellence, Respect and Pride.

St. Joseph Catholic School Philosophy

By living the gospel message, St. Joseph Catholic School supports the Catholic Church's mission to build a community of faith, worship and service through Catholic education. Our purposes as a school are to inspire and nurture the whole child, encourage life-long academic and spiritual growth, and support parents as the primary educators of their children, and teachers as facilitators of learning.

St. Joseph School community is committed to working in a manner that is deeply respectful of the uniqueness and intrinsic value of each student. Through quality education, that meets the diverse needs of the individual learner, St. Joseph Catholic School develops the spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional growth of each student. Policies and programs are promoted that reverence the dignity of all persons.

The clergy, administration, faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers share in the commitment to teach the gospel values. We integrate these values in all aspects of our community supported by daily faith sharing and worship.

St. Joseph Catholic School community encourages students to become life long learners. We provide opportunities for students to realize their potential and God given talents. We support each student to become an actively responsible Catholic Christian who is able to make moral decisions modeled after Jesus Christ.

Every six years, St. Joseph Catholic school engages in a thoughtful and thorough self-study in order to define what is working well for the school community (school strengths), and what it needs to do better to meet the needs of its students (critical growth areas). Over the past 12 months, the school community has been collecting data specified by WCEA, soliciting information from students and parents via survey and collecting data specified by our work. We are now in the process of analyzing the data and creating an Action Plan. We ask that you keep us in prayer as we work toward our Accreditation visit.
