This is a short overview of a 60 year association with Irvin Kershner. I am Bob Krone 1

Lets start with 1949 at the University of Southern California. Kersh here is showing my Father, Dr. Max T. Krone, his photo prints of his Eric Lachman Ancient instrument collection. The book is a collectors item today2 Max and Bee Krone had an Impossible Dream to build a school for Music and the Arts for all ages, all faiths, all cultures , to Build a World in Tune. 3That year, 1949, Max and Bee Krone were beginning construction of their Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts in the San Jacinto Mountains west of Palm Springs. Visual artist Francis de Erdeley and photo artists Irvin Kershner were helping him.

The next Summer, 1950, Kersh was the Photography teacher for the first class of the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts. This Kershner photo shows all the teachers, staff and students that launched ISOMATA sixty years ago.4

Heres a zoom that is evidence that both Kersh and I had hair in 1950.5

The next year, 1951 the senior project for my USC Cinematography Degree was directing, shooting and editing the first color sound film of ISOMATA in action. Dad and Bee Krone used it to market the school for the next decade. .. And Kersh was there with his creative ideas.6

Others at this Celebration of life will highlight Kershs twenty-six films between 1958 and 2011. I will limit this brief to the Kershner - Krone story.7

Idyllwild Arts 60th Anniversary, 7 August 2010

Last August 2010, ISOMTA, renamed Idyllwild Arts in 1985, celebrated its 60th Anniversary. Kersh was ill. When I called him to announce that anniversary event he said: I wont miss this one. Here you see Idyllwild Arts Film Student, Paris Deesing with Kersh. And at some point after 1950 we became baldys.8

Kersh was the unanimous choice of the Kepler Space University leadership for award of its first Honorary PhD.9

So on 7 October last year we had a commencement just for Kersh at his Beverley Hills home.10

Kershs son, David, who had spent the last three and half years, helping his Dad, was there and made the statement that The Doctor of Visual Arts was perfectly appropriate to capture the life of my Father.11

This means more to me than my films.

And after the formal ceremony, Kersh made the remarkable statement that: This means more to me than my films.12

Kershner CreativityThe KSU Press Release on Kershs Ph.D. Degree in Visual Arts included the announcement that the University is creating a Kershner Creativity course. It will collect from Kershs personal creativity inventory the thinking , imagination, innovation and inspiration that produced his diverse twenty-six films and his photography exhibitions.

Kershs Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back introduced Yoda and remains today the favorite Star Wars Fable. At Kepler Space University we intend to capture Kershs life of creativity with a course to share that creativity for the benefit of artists and of people on Earth or in Space. . 13
