This Week—Discipleship:

Why We Do What We Do

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Do you remember your first encounter

with Jesus?

It is easy to claim discipleship in Jesus Christ because

most of us have grown up with Jesus. In my own life I

came to realize that I know more of Him than I really

know Him. In time I would come to realize that I really

didn’t have a relationship with Jesus. I was simply going

through the motions. There was no real desire in my

prayer life or Mass attendance.

I came to realize that our discipleship in Jesus Christ

should be evidenced in the way that we live our lives.

It is not enough for a disciple of Jesus Christ to simply

make it to Mass on Sunday, Confession once a year and

to throw up a few prayers here and there. True disciples

of Jesus Christ imitate Him, His love, His virtues and

seek His will in everything they do. Jesus wants to

spend quality time with us, deepen our trust and enlarge

our capacity to love. True disciples don’t just claim to

be His disciple, they constantly seek out and listen for

His voice - for His will in their lives.

Carry Your Cross

In our Gospel reading this weekend, we encounter Jesus

traveling with large crowds and He tells them, in no

uncertain terms the serious difficulty that a true disciple

of His will encounter. He tells us that we must accept

the difficulties associated with being His disciple as

our Cross - that is, the way in which we will best

imitate Him and struggle for our salvation in Him.

Remember, the road to Calvary is not easy, it is full of

pain and suffering. How did Jesus handle the pain &

suffering? He was faithful to His prayer time and

always focused on God the Father and fulfilling His

will. (con’t on p.2)

we follow Jesus Christ. Is it clear by our thoughts,

words and actions that everything we do is focused on

our discipleship in Jesus Christ - that He is the first and

most important relationship we have in life? In what

ways do we need to listen to Jesus Christ better?

Jesus Christ is ready to speak with us in the Mass

readings and in the Sacraments. Not sure how we need

to better listen to Him? Go to the Perpetual Adoration

Chapel, make an honest examination of Conscience, go

to Confession, read the daily Mass readings and pray for

the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is ready to speak

with us! Are we ready to listen?

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, become disciples

as we Learn, Love, & Live Christ’s Mission, it’s Why

We Do What We Do!

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Pray for us!

In this encounter with Jesus, He tells us twice of the

difficulty of being His disciple. The first difficulty deals

with one’s own life and their family, and the second

difficulty deals with our attachment to our possessions.

True disciples of Jesus Christ put Him first, and everyone

and everything else after Him. He gets pride of place in

our thoughts, words, and actions - in what we do and

what we choose not to do. If we truly put Jesus Christ

first in everything we think, say, and do, we will certainly

experience suffering. Jesus Christ calls us to live as we

were created to be and our attachment to sin prevents

this. He also tells us to call out others with char ity so

that they too might live as they were created to be. Jesus

never asks for admirers; He always desires us to become

His disciples. The difference is immaturity and maturity

of faith.

Come After Me

Why ALPHA at our parish? The goal of ALPHA is to
