« LA BOURLE »
It is a traditional game played in the Flanders in France.
This game is played on an area « la bourloire », from 20 to 28 m long and from 3 to 3,5 m wide.
The area is made by a mixture of clay, dung of cow, flour of rye, salt and beer.
The bourle is a big wooden disk of gaïac, of quebracho or of walnut from 25 to 30 cm in diameter and from 10 to 15 cm in width, for a weight from 1,8 to 8 kg.
Some “bourles, more modern, are made of synthetic resin. Bourle is asymmetrical and has a high side and a low side.
At 50 cm of every extremity of the “bourloire”, a disk of 3 cm in diameter is set.
It is the “étaque”. The “bourle” has to reach it.
The measures are done with a compass.
The game consists in placing “bourles” as close as possible to the “étaque”. It takes place for two persons or by team of 3 or 6 players, every team having 6 “bourles”.
Each team has a leader who will try to place his “bourles”. His team members will throw their “bourles” so that they establish obstacles to hamper the opposite team.
