Occurred from the mid 19th to 1920.

Focused on women gaining the right to vote.

An 1865 disagreement lead the Suffrage Movement split into two groups: the groups disagreed on whether to support the passing of the 15th Amendment, which gave African American men the right to vote.

The two groups: The National Woman Suffrage Associate (NWSA), founded by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, AND The American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA), founded by Lucy Stone and Julia Ward Howe.

The AWSA focused on suffrage at the state level while the NWSA lobbied for suffrage at the national level.

Eventually, the two groups reunited in 1889 (NAWSA); after all, both groups were equally appalled at sexism.
