Destination #4: Italy
In the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s LearningFramework, a comprehensive document that guides allour decision–making, we have identified “EssentialExperiences” that “allow children to become strongadults who are healthy, caring, and responsible.” Oneof the five key essential experiences is “experiencesthat Expand a Child’s World,” connecting with others ofvaried backgrounds, abilities, and interests and giving achild a sense of place in the community, Louisiana, andthe world.
Our annual Children’s World’s Fair is an extraordinaryopportunity to allow children to connect with others ofvaried backgrounds and build broader perspectivesabout the many, many people in our global community.
LCM was counting down the days for our Children’sWorld’s Fair when the Stay-at-Home orders werereceived, and will, sadly, be unable to deliver our plansto you in person this year.
BUT – we have lots of fun we’d like you to explore –virtually – that will expand your world!
There is an awesome 100-year-old traditionin Italy’s coffee shops. Sometimes peoplepay for 2 coffees but only take 1, so the shopcan donate free coffee (sospeso) to peoplewho cannot afford it.
Italians are some of the healthiest andlongest living people on Earth. Many Italians eat homemade, fresh food and choose fruitover sweets for dessert.
Next time you shop for clothes, schoolsupplies, or groceries, think about buyingan extra item for someone in need.
You can eat fruit when craving somethingsweet. Thank your parents when they cookyou a fresh homemade meal.
