This is the simplest and most effective way to operatean ATM, where the merchant uses their own cash tofill the machine. They only need to put in as muchcash as is needed for a single day's transactions,therefore the amount of cash inside their ATM isgenerally quite low. The amount withdrawn bycustomers is transferred directly into a nominatedbank account the following business day, saving tripsto the bank and expensive cash deposit fees.
In this manner, merchants are able to effectivelyrecycle cash through their ATM as up to 50% ofwithdrawn cash will be spent on their premises.
