05.18.18 “Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson Dear AHS Parents, This afternoon I had the great pleasure of being present for a short, but sweet celebration acknowledging twelve seniors who have committed to pursuing a degree in the performing arts. In addition to these students’ parents, Titus Auditorium was filled with their friends and classmates all supporting them in such a positive way. As I listened to the words spoken about each individual student by his/her director, I was reminded how talented they are and how excited we all are for what is in store for these great young men and women. In the end, I have said it all along and I’ll say it again - I cannot speak more highly of the many students we have walking the halls of Anderson High School with such promise and potential. Next week, we’ll be recognizing our athletes who are signing letters of intent to continue to play their sport in college. We will also celebrate, as a school, our students who are in the top ten of the senior class on what their plans are next year. It’s a great time of year, indeed!! Have a GREAT weekend! Rob P.S. Parents of students attending Prom/After-Prom this weekend - never forget the power and influence of your own honest and lovingly clear expectations for your son/daughter. Please remind them to be safe, to make good decisions, and to have FUN!! MOMENTS OF THE WEEK:

Dear AHS Parents, This afternoon I had the great pleasure of being present for a short, but sweet celebration acknowledging twelve seniors who have committed to pursuing a degree in the performing arts. Rob P.S. Students will be held accountable for textbooks and are required to return them at the end of the course. Fees will be assessed for loss or damage to textbooks. These range from rebind costs to book replacement charges. Replacement costs typically run between $50 to over $100. Students must return all textbooks to the Media Center between 7:10 am - 2:30 Monday-Friday until Thursday, May 31. Please do not leave books in the Media Center until they have been checked in. Any books not returned to the Media Center by Thursday, May 31 will result in a fee. SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Summer is right around the corner! Forest Hills School District summer school information is now available on the FHSD website! Learn more and register INFORMATION FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR:

CALENDARS: o Find academic calendars for 2018-19 and 2019-20 online now! Parents may notice

the 2019-20 calendar reverts back to an academic calendar similar to what FHSD followed prior to construction projects. For the past two years, FHSD academic calendars incorporated longer summers to provide additional time for construction, to prepare classrooms for students after construction, and to better ensure a smooth start to the school year. Construction is anticipated to be complete by summer 2019, so longer summers are no longer needed for construction purposes. In addition, all FHSD schools will now be air conditioned, which allows for a comfortable start date earlier in the summer. Finally, starting school in August is more consistent with the start dates of other area school districts, thus providing a more equal playing field for optimization of instructional time at the beginning of the year.

NEW START TIMES: o During its regular April 23 public meeting, the Forest Hills Board of Education

unanimously approved an administrative recommendation to change school start times to better support student learning and wellness. Learn more
