Alfalfa Descriptions In general, alfalfa is one of the highest yielding forage plants available. Where adapted, alfalfa does well alone or in a mixture with tall-growing grasses. Alfalfa produces best on well-drained soil with good water holding capacity and pH of 6.5 or above, although certain varieties have been bred to tolerate less-than-ideal growing conditions. It is long-lived and drought resistant.
Provest R3 Alfalfa Provest R3 Alfalfa produces a high yield, high quality feed with added disease protection to maintain long term plant health. Alfalfa diseases shorten stand life, rapidly reduce yield and quality and increases the likelihood of winter injury. Aphanomyces and particularly Race 3 Aphanomyces have secretly stolen yield for years and only a handful of alfalfa have any natural resistance. Provest R3 is highly resistant to all common alfalfa diseases, including Race 1 and 2 of Aphanomyces and resistance to Race 3. This is an excellent product in all environments but highly effective in cool, wet or clay soils.
Transition 5.2 HQ Alfalfa Transition 5.2 HQ alfalfa was selected for forage quality with excellent RFQ, NDFd and TTNDFD scores. Along with remarkable forage quality, Transition 5.2 HQ delivers outstanding yield potential, which translates to large profits per acre under the right management. With these high-quality attributes, Transition 5.2 HQ alfalfa has comparable lignin ratings to other non-GMO low lignin alfalfas. Transition 5.2 HQ was bred from non-GMO high performance genetics.
UpTick EH 4.2 HQ Alfalfa Uptick EH 4.2 HQ is the second generation of Extended Harvest alfalfa products. High yields of protein and energy along with reduced lignin content reduces stress to your herd and gives you greater feeding options. Enhanced regrowth and a high disease package finalize an outstanding profit package. Uptick EH 4.2 HQ was bred from non-GMO high performance genetics.
390 HyQual Brand Alfalfa 390 HyQual Brand alfalfa is a great choice for those looking for high quality plant health incorporated with high end disease resistance. Healthier plants produce more dry matter with reduced fiber content and provide for a longer stand life. Deer Creek’s 390 HyQual has a consistent, fast, recovery period. It can be planted in cool, wet soils or warmer, southern-Midwest loess soils. 390 HyQual genetics come from a conventional breeding program which allows for biodiversity unseen in today’s GMO world.
Recommended Seeding Rate For Alfalfa: 15-20 lbs/acre

Alfalfa & Clover Descriptions 303 ML Brand Alfalfa 303 Multi-Leaf alfalfa is a leafier type of alfalfa developed for cooler soils in the upper Midwest. 303 has good disease resistance and tolerates areas of heavy dews, cooler temperatures, and early frosts. 303 comes out of dormancy later than Persist III or Secure Branch Root Alfalfa. While this reduces its cutting schedule, it still generates top forage yields in cooler climates.
Winter King II Brand Alfalfa Winter King II alfalfa is an inexpensive variety ideal for the value minded grower with a three-cut cropping system. It not only delivers winter hardiness equal to Vernal Alfalfa, it also has disease resistance to Phytophthora Root Rot.
Vernal Alfalfa Vernal alfalfa is an older variety known for its winter hardiness, reliability, and affordability. It produces good yields, even on fields without ideal growing conditions. Vernal alfalfa exhibits excellent winter hardiness in the North and moderate regrowth after cutting. This seed is mostly used in a mix with forage grasses for pasture, as a green manure cover crop, as a pollinator attractant crop for honey bees, or for hay production.
Fortitude Red Clover Fortitude Red Clover (Pre-Inoculated & OMRI Coated) is a premium variety that is high forage yielding persistent red clover, selected for high disease resistance, spring regrowth, and herbage. Fortitude Red Clover possesses resistance to Powdery Mildew and tolerance to Alfalfa Mosaic Virus tackling the diseases that shorten stand life and reduce forage quality and yield. Fortitude Red Clover is more than a common red clover.
990 Elite Brand Red Clover 990 Elite red clover is a premium blend intended for hay and forage production in double cut systems. Comprised of three-year red clovers selected for high yields, excellent winter hardiness, and superb disease resistance, this seed mix is a reliable performer in areas with low pH or low fertility soils.

Premium Food Plot Mixes Game Bird Mix is specially formulated for maximum food availability over an extended period. Depending on heat and moisture, seed production can occur in as little as 60 days and extend out past 100 days. This length of time supplies a quick meal for developing birds and dense undercover for overwintering birds. Diverse plants were selected with three primary characteristics in mind: reduced plant height for hunting safety, feed quality, and seed retention. We have also reduced the millet proportion to allow easier hunting for both hunter and dog. Planting should not occur until after last spring frost date. Native grasses come in all sizes – from a mere one foot tall to over six feet! So if you don’t want a towering forest of grasses, you can plant smaller varieties like Itasca Little Bluestem or Sideoats Grama. If, on the other hand, you’re looking to create a privacy screen and would rather have plants instead of a fence, consider Indiangrass – which gets both wide and tall.
Do you have a wet corner of your yard where traditional turf varieties never seem to establish? Consider planting our Lowland Native Grass Mix. This mix is a blend of medium height (3 to 6 feet tall) native grasses that can handle seasonally damp soils. Is that wet corner also shady? Perhaps consider putting in attractive displays of Canada Wild Rye or Virginia Wild Rye – both of which can handle part shade and damp soils! The bonus is that they have really neat, droopy seed heads that resemble cultivated rye.
What if you have a sandy, dry, or droughty area of your property? Our Upland Native Grass Mix is perfect for those spots that are higher in the landscape and tend to remain dry throughout the season. If your dry area is also wide out in the open and you want something that can handle the baking hot sun, look no further than Badlands Little Bluestem. This beautiful shorter prairie grass can handle even the harshest of dry prairie climates.
What if you have poor soils – sandy, clay, rocky, and inhospitable? Switchgrass or Indiangrass will be your friends here. Tall, dramatic, and strong, these two native grasses are absolute favorites! How about saline or sodic soils? Revenue Slender Wheatgrass or Rosana Western Wheatgrass are two native grasses that are commonly used on reclamation projects precisely because they can handle saline or sodic soils where nothing else will grow!

Wildflower Mixes
Wildflower seed mixes are available by the pound.
All Perennial Wildflower Mix is a blend of twenty two perennial species that will provide a colorful stand for many years. If planted in the spring, some flowering may occur in the first year, although most wildflowers will start blooming the following spring. Planting in the spring or summer will provide more time for the plants to develop strong root systems. If fall planted, the flowers will blossom the following year. Under normal conditions, this mix will grow about 44-56 inches tall. Seeding Rate: 7-12 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 4000 sq ft
Deer Proof Wildflower Mix contains seventeen species of wildflowers that are relatively unpalatable to deer. The mix contains approximately 34% perennial species and 66% annual species. Many of the annual species will reseed themselves for many seasons to come. Under normal growing conditions, this mix should grow between 18-48 inches tall. Seeding Rate: 17-19 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 2500 sq ft
Low Grow Wildflower Mix is made up of 26 species chosen for their natural beauty, long flowering periods and low growing characteristics. This mix is comprised of approximately 70% annuals and 30% perennial flower seeds. The mix will grow to a height of 18-24 inches under normal growing conditions. It is ideal for an area where beautiful, shorter, flowers are wanted. Seeding Rate: 10-12 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 4000 sq ft
Midwestern Wildflower Mix is a long blooming blend of up to 26 species chosen for their spectacular flowers. This mix is comprised of approximately 50% annuals and 50% perennial species. This mix can tolerate extreme cold and rugged winter conditions. Under normal growing conditions this mix may reach a height of 32-42 inches. Seeding Rate: 5-9 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 4000 sq ft
North American Shade Wildflower Mix was formulated to grow well in low light areas. The mix does best in spots that receive part sun and part shade throughout the day. This mix is comprised of approximately 55% annuals and 45% perennials. Under normal growing conditions this mix should grow to a height of 42-60 inches. Seeding Rate: 5-8 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 6000 sq ft
Pollinator Wildflower Mix is a blend of annual and perennial flowers that provide nectar and pollen to honey bees and other pollinators. These flowers are proven favorites of honey bees but will also attract butterflies, moths, and beneficial insects all season long. It is an ideal mix for honey beekeepers and others interested in pollinator health. This mix can be used in garden beds, borders, and other maintained areas. Seeding Rate: 6-12 lbs/acre or 1 lb per 4000 sq ft
Native Wildflower and Forbs Mix is a special blend of wildflowers and upland or lowland native grasses for the ultimate native restoration planting. Utilize an array of diverse species to restore the land, provide beneficial pollinator habitat and food source, or plant for the beauty alone! The species in this mix are a combination of annuals and perennials, selected for their attractive, abundance of blooms. Seeding Rate: 4-6 lbs per acre standalone or 2-4 lbs per acre with 5# Upland/Lowland Native Grass Mix
