WhatanexcitingyearisinstoreforWarriorBaseballfans.WehaveanewheadcoachwhoisnostrangertoWallaWallaandWarriorBaseball.AftersixseasonsasanAssistantCoach,DaveMeliahtakesthereignsasournewHeadCoach.Davehasbroughtsuccesstoeveryendeavor

inhisbaseballlife.Athree-timeStateChampionatDeSalesHighSchool,aConferencechampionasaWWCCplayer,partofa34winrecord-settingteamattheUniversityofSanFrancisco,andasixyearcareerwiththeTexasRangerprofessionalorganization,Daveplayedthegamewithpassionandenergy.Asanassistantcoach,heearnedtherespectandadmirationofhundredsofWarriorathletes,guidingthemonandoffthefield.WearethrilledtowelcomeDavetohisnewrolewiththeteamandexpectexcitingbaseballthisseason.Wehavemadesomefan-friendlychangestoourballpark,andeveryoneisinvitedtocomeoutandexperienceWarriorBaseball.YouwilllikelyfindDave’swifeJill,aWa-Hicoachherself,andEmily,Dave’sdaughter,cheeringtheWarriorstovictory.WallaWallaCommunityCollegehasaproudtraditionofofferingstudent-athletesthechancetopursuetheirloveofsportswhileearningdegreesandpreparingforsuccessfulcareers.Baseballhereisanimportantpartofthattradition.GoWarriors!

strongexampleofthevalueofintercollegiateathletics.Wewanttoattractstudent-athletestoourcampuswhowanttoachievesuccessinthe

classroom.Ourbaseballteamhasdonethatsincetheprogramwasformedin1988.Classroomsuccessisapriority.Wemeasurethissuccessbytheextremelyhighpercentageofouryoungmenwhohaveearnedtheirdegreesandcontinuedontofour-yearcollegesanduniversities.

Intercollegiateathleticsinthecontextoftrainingforsuccessandeducationforlifeaddsfurtherdimensiontothecollegecurriculum.AsinallwedoatWallaWallaCommunityCollege,wewillcontinuetostrivetoprovidetheenvironmentwhichpromoteshigh-qualityperformanceandpersonalsuccessthroughoutthestudent’slife.

DaveMeliahisinhisfirstseasonastheHeadCoachoftheWarriorBaseballprogramafterservingasanassistantcoachforfiveseasons.DavegrewupinWallaWallaandattendedDeSalesHighSchoolwherehehelpedtheIrishwinthreestatechampionships.HethenattendedWWCCandhelpedtheWarriorswintheNWAACCEastRegionin1997underHeadCoachKenJohnson.HewasnamedtotheNWAACC1stteamasashortstop.

DavecontinuedhiscareerbyearningascholarshiptotheUniversityofSanFrancisco.In1998,theDonsbroketheschoolwinsrecordbyrecording34victories.Davealsosettheschoolrecordbyhitting19doubleswhileearning1stTeamAll-WestCoastConferencehonorsasashortstop.WhenDavewasatUSF,CoachCumminswastheHeadBaseballCoachatSantaClaraUniversity.

In1998,Davewasdraftedinthe17throundbytheTexasRangersOrganization.HesignedaprofessionalcontractandplayedsixyearswiththeRangersintheirminorleaguesystem.HisfinaltwoandahalfyearswerespentattheAAAlevelinOklahomaCity.SomeofhisbiggestprofessionalaccomplishmentsincludeplayinginseveralbigleagueSpringTraininggameswiththeRangers-hislastbeingattheRanger’shomestadium,TheBallparkinArlington,TXandhittingagame-winning2-runhomeruninthetopofthe9thagainsttheMarinersAAAteam,theTacomaRainiers,onMother’sDayinfrontofhisfamilyandfriends.HeisexcitedaboutthechallengesaheadatWWCCandcan’twaittogettoworktohelpgettheWarriorsbackontopoftheEasternRegion.

In2003,DaveretiredfromprofessionalbaseballtomovebacktoWallaWallatopursueateachingdegreeandcoachingcareer.HeismarriedtohiswifeJill,alsoateacherandHeadGirlsBasketballCoachatWallaWallaHighSchool.Theyhaveadaughter,Emily,bornJuly8th,2007.

Afterhissophomoreyear,hetransferredtoCentenaryCollegeofLouisiana,whereheearnedhisB.S.inHealthandExerciseSciencein2005.

Asapitcherandthirdbaseman,hisseniorseasonwashighlightedbya2-hitcompletegamevictorythathepitchedagainst#2rankedLSU.ForhiseffortshewasnamedNCBWANationalPitcheroftheWeek,LouisianaPlayeroftheWeek,Mid-ConPlayeroftheWeek,aswellasanominationfortheRogerClemensAward.CentenarycontinuedtheirsuccesswithabirthintotheMid-ContinentConferencechampionshipgame,wherehewasnamedtotheAll-Tournamentteam.

DanplayedhighschoolbaseballinSpokane,WAatMeadHighSchoolgraduatingin2000.HewasanAll-LeaguePitcherandOutfielderforthePanthersinhisjuniorandseniorseasons.FromtherehewentontopitchatLowerColumbiaCollegeandwasamemberoftwoNWAACCTournamentteamsandmadeoneappearanceintheNWAACCChampionshipgame.AfterLCC,DanplayedatLinfieldCollegeandwasanAll-LeaguecloserontheWildcatteamthatwenttotheNCAARegionalsin2004.

DanhasanexcellentrapportwiththeplayersandwillhelpCoachBiagiwiththepitchingstaffaswellasworkwiththecatchersandtheoutfielders.

Afterhisjunioryearin2000,Jasonwasa3rdrounddraftchoice(98thoverall)oftheNewYorkYankees.Heplayedfiveseasonsofpro-ballwiththeYankees,MinnesotaTwins,andSeattleMarinersandmadeittotheAAlevel.HealsoplayedinseveralBigLeagueSpringTraininggames.WhenJasonandCoachMeliahwerebothplayingpro-ball,theywouldworkoutintheoff-seasontogetheratWWCCintheHittingfacility.

PitchinG:Thisshouldbeoneofourbiggeststrongsuitsthisseason.Wehavefourplayersreturningthatallsawsignificantinningslastyear.Right-handersRichie CarmichaelandAustin Pentecost,andleft-handersJake NelsonandTravis Ruffinwereallmajorcontributorslastseason.CarmichaelparticipatedintheSophomoreShowcasethisfallandwillbecountedonheavilyasastarteragainthisseasonandinthemiddleinfield.Wehopetousethehard-throwingPentecost,whowasmainlyarelieverlastseason,intherotationthisyearwherehisvelocityandhisslidershouldgetplentyofattention.CraftyleftyNelsonwillbecountedontoeatupplentyofinningsagainthisyearineitherastartingormiddle-reliefrolewhileRuffinisstillrecoveringfromaserioushamstringissuethathehadinthefall.Whenhealthy,heisverydeceptiveandhasexcellentcontrol.Red-shirtfreshmanright-handerNick Jordanwillbringanotherpowerarmintothemixwhilered-shirtleft-handerColton Richardswasoneofourmostimprovedplayersinthefall.Hiscontrolhasimprovedimmenselyandwelookforbigthingsoutofhimthisseason.

Prowisoneofthemosttalentedplayersontheteam,butmustresolvesomeoffthefieldissuesbeforehecanhaveanimpactonthefield.OncehedoeswecouldhaveoneofthebestcatchingunitsintheNWAACC.

OnOctober17,2009theWarriorBaseballFamilywelcomedbackalmost40formerplayersandcoachestoparticipateinthe2ndAnnualOldTimersAlumniGame.Thestandswerepackedwithfriendsandfamilywhowitnessedtwowellplayedgames,eventuallywonbythe2010Warriors,8-2and6-5.Wearealreadylookingforwardtoandplanningnextyear’sAlumniWeekendandarehopingtoseemanymoreoftheoldplayers.TheplanistoaddmoreeventstotheweekendinthefutureincludingaTexasHold’EmPokerTournament.

Located at the foot of the Blue Mountains in Southeastern Washington, Walla Walla Community College offers a variety of academic transfer programs and over �0 technical and paraprofessional programs. The twin communities of Walla Walla and College Place house a wide variety of agriculture, manufacturing, business and government employers. The communities are also home to Whitman College, Walla Walla College, and Walla Walla Community College, adding an educational base and cultural opportunities to the historic region. Warm Summers, crisp Winters, and beautiful Spring and Fall months provide four distinct seasons to enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities.

Walla Walla Community College is also home to ten varsity sports with highly competitive programs in Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Men’s and Women’s Golf, and Rodeo.
