The best seat is…the last (Luke 14:10 NAS). (See also Mk. 9:35; James 4:10).

It is the seat that no one else wants. Are you willing to sit where others won’t; to do the jobs that others won’t?

The best seat in the house is the one in which Jesus sat (Jn. 13:3-4).

The Essence of Humility

• 1 Peter 5:5-9– Complete humility involves both

God & man– Pride has the desire to be

served, honored, & noticed.

• Humility is commanded (Col. 3:12; Is. 57:15).

• With true humility, it is not just what a man thinks, but how he walks (Micah 6:8; Phil. 2:3-8).

• Adopt an attitude of receiving, not earning or deserving– “Then you say in your heart, ‘My

power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.” (Deut. 8:17-18)

–Humility is seen through our speech (Eccl. 5:2; Ps. 138:6)• Do we always feel the need to talk (Prov. 18:2; James 1:19)?

• Do we put others down in order to lift ourselves up?

• Do we:• judge others harshly,• criticize needlessly,• or discount dismissively?
