THE IMPORTANCE OF ACADEMIC

COUNSELING

“Creating Success, One Student at a Time”

The mission of Student Support Services and the Center for Student Success (CSS) is to provide a centralized “one-stop-shop” location where students can receive academic advisement and counseling services via an academic advisor, faculty /staff mentor or counselor.

Students can receive assistance in their progression toward their education and career goals and early counseling intervention for problem resolution.  The main priority of the CSS center is to advocate for students on campus and to assist, motivate and empower students for self-development and self-actualization.  The CSS Center was created based on an intentional institutional intervention strategy to promote student success and retention.

The primary goals of CSS Center are as follows:

To reinforce throughout the College the importance of academic advisement and counseling services;

To improve the consistency of information students receive, especially when academic policies change;

To permit students to obtain easier access to existing department information;

To provide a central location where individuals may receive training on how to properly advise students; and

To act as a key resource in student success and retention

Office For Student Development

The Office for Student Development,

Deals with Academic Warning, Probation & Dismissal Office, was established to not only govern the College’s academic/dismissal review process of probation students; but also provide services that will viably assist students facing academic challenges in order to regain good academic standing within the institution.  Student development is committed to devising and implementing programs based on the needs of our students through assessment.

 At the end of each semester, the Office for Student Development reviews the Grade Point Averages (GPAs) and credits accumulated for each student to determine their academic standing within the College.  All students who are not in good academic standing, based on the college’s standards, are placed in one of the following categories of academic warning, probation or dismissal.

Student Development is available to students seeking information on how to academically elevate and transform themselves to increase their overall student success experience here at TROY.  They look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.  To better assist you in your journey towards good academic standing, Student Development and SSS provides several resources to support your academic success .

Whether your concerns are personal, career, pre-

enrollment or academic-related, we can help

you succeed as a student.
