Flavours of Banaras

Think of holy men with painted faces and a head full of braids wearing saffron dhotis and kurtas and women in colourful sarees. Think of water with the rays of glimmering sunlight, only disturbed by floating diyas. This is the picture of Banaras bought to the members with a special Banarasi menu during the period of Navratras.

Curated by microbiologist Sangeeta Khanna, who has worked on dietary antioxidants for the F&B industry. The menu had a varied choice of Chutneys to tongue-tickling Chaats and Dahi Vadas. The Banarasi Thali was a favoutite with all members. Khoya, Matar aur Makhane ki Subzi was given thumbs up by Sanjay Arora while Sachin Malhotra vouched for the succulent Dahi Vada.

In continuation of the food journey at the Pavilion, we invite you in October to savour delicacies from the lanes of Old Delhi.

Playing From the Forward Tees Can Be Fun & Challenging!Playing from the forward tees is increasing in popularity as it enables golfers to have fast, fun rounds that present different challenges and potentially help improve different aspects of their game. The concept of using the forward tees is intended to enhance the golf experience by allowing golfers to adjust the length and difficulty of a golf course, not to make it easier. Using the forward tees will improve your accuracy from the tee and sharpen your short game. In addition to game improvement, the course will receive a greater spread of traffic which will allow for better turf recovery and better quality playing surfaces. You can usually play faster and achieve better scores when playing a golf course that is using the forward tees. Playing from forward tees can leave you with fewer long irons and thus improving your accuracy, score, enjoyment and potentially lose less golf balls!During the coming weeks as the course is over seeded, the tees will need to be rotated on a regular basis to ensure a quality establishment which can take place. Even as we move through the winter period, many tee complexes will require significant recovery periods in which the tees will need to be fully rotated so as to spread the wear and tear.

With the rotation of the tees comes greater spread of wear and tear on the landing areas of the fairways. As the Perennial Rye does not recover as quickly as the warmer turf grass varieties, spreading the number of divots over a greater area will enhance the playing experience. As discussed above, there are many positives for using the forward tees, from improving aspects of the player’s game to providing better quality playing surfaces on a weekly basis for the members and guests.

This Month's Achievers

Tvesa Malik won the 12th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2017 at the Delhi Golf Club. This was her second professional victory.

Jahanvi Bakshi bagged the winner's trophy of combined Girls A & B Category at the IGU Delhi State and NCR Junior Boys & Girls Cup held at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida from 4th to 8th

September, thereby qualifying for the 2017 IMG Academy Junior World Challenge to be held from 14th to 16th Dec. 2017 in Florida.

Hitaashee Bakshi finished in 3rd place in Girls A Category of IGU Delhi State and NCR Junior Golf Cup at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida.

Tilt Body Forward To Compensate For a Bad Lie

Karan's Tips

Pic 2: Shows an exaggerated tilt more forward than in Picture 1. When the lie of the ball is bad, this tilting of the body forward will ensure a steeper angle of approach, thereby catching the ball on the swing’s descent. You are sure to catch the ball before the ground and minimize chances of a poor shot.

Pic 1: Shows how we address the centre of the body in front of the ball for a chip shot. The centre is tilted slightly forward for a normal lie.

This month, let’s have a look at the next parameter as measured by the launch monitor – Face to Path. Face to path is described as the difference between the face angle and swing path and is the main indicator of the amount of curvature imparted on the ball. Given that the ball is struck off the center of the clubface, the ball will curve towards the club face direction and away from the swing path. The greater the value of face to path, the more will be the tendency of the golf ball to curve in the air.

The face angle is the direction the club face is pointed (right or left of the target line) at impact. It is the angle of the part of the club that makes impact with and influences initial direction of the ball, relative to the target line (left-right). A positive value means that the face is pointing to the right (open relative to target for right handed player), whereas a negative value means that the face is pointing to the left (closed relative to target for right handed player). Most golfers refer to this as having an “open” or “closed” club face.Club path is the horizontal (left-right) angle at which the club head is moving at impact. Positive means to the right (inside-out for a right-handed golfer), negative means to the left (outside-in for a right-handed golfer). Most golfers relate this number to hitting the ball “in-to-out” or “out-to-in”.Face to path is measured in degrees and can be a positive or a negative figure. For a right-handed golfer, a negative face to path would represent a face angle that is closed to the swing path and one that would tilt the spin axis of the golf ball to the left thereby making the golf ball draw or hook. Similarly, a positive face to path would represent a face angle that is open to the swing path and one that would tilt the spin axis to the right side thereby making the golf ball fade or slice. A zero face to path means that the swing path and face angle are pointing in the same direction and this would result in a straight shot in the direction that the face and path are pointing.Players who play a draw always try to have their face angle slightly left of their path thereby having a negative face to path value. Players who play a fade try to attain the opposite by having their face angle slightly right of their path thereby having a positive face to path value.

REMEDIES FOR MUSCLE CRAMPS & STIFFNESSIf you experience muscle pain, stiffness or cramps and spasm, it’s time to pay attention to your diet and fluid intake. Poor diet, dehydration, wrong posture and stress can make matters worse. Let's look at some natural relaxers and nutrients that help calm your muscles:1. Potassium: Make sure you eat a lot of fruits like oranges, bananas, grapes, lemons, water melon; veggies like spinach, beets, sweet potatoes and pumpkins. Drink fresh lime water, couple of times a day, to add up on this

micronutrient .2. Magnesium: Magnesium deficiency, might be the missing cure to many diseases. So add up on magnesium rich foods especially during dinner like a spinach omelet or pumpkin seeds, figs, dark chocolate, almonds, cashews, sesame seeds, pine nuts and peanuts.3. Coconut water: The level of electrolyte in coconut water is similar to the human body, thus it readily absorbs balancing nutritional requirements and any electrolyte loss. 4. Fish oil: Omega 3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, and because the human body cannot make these fatty acids, we need them in our diets. Include, oily fish like mackerel, salmon and sardines in your diet; vegetarians can get their Omega 3s from flaxseeds, chia seeds and walnuts.
