1962: The intense thirteen day political standoff between the Soviet Union and the United States. Russian missiles were placed in Cuba which threatened U.S. security.

Kennedy ordered a blockade on Cuba until the missiles were removed.
Soviet ships bound for Cuba neared the line of U.S. vessels enforcing the blockade.
But the Soviet ships stopped short of the blockade.
