The scolastic reforms, from the beninning of ‘900 up today,

were a lot:The Riforma Gentile (1923) introduced :

• The nursery, of 3 years;

• The primary school, of 5 years;

• The Secondary lower school, of 3 years.

After it students could attend:

• licei, tecnical schools, istituti magistrali and conservatori.

• School becomes compulsory up to 14 years old.

In 1948 education becomes of the state, free and compulsory, for at least 8 years.

Years ’60-’70

• The reform of 1962 introduces the unified lower secondary school.

• All the secondary school permit the access to the university.

• The "Decreti Delegati"(1974), introduce a rapresentance in the governance of the school of parents, ATA and students

• The primary school can last 40 hours per week (“tempo pieno”) (low 820/71).

• The Low 517/77 introduces the principle of integration of special needs students by the intriduction of specialized teachers.

• The lower secondary school has new programs

Years ’80-’90

• Long school time (1983).• New syllabus for the Primary school (1985).• The “moduli "(1990).• Reform of state exam: three written works and

an interview (1997).• Low about the autonomy (1997).• The school becomes compulsory up to 15

years old (1999).• The voting that was 60/60 , now is 100/100,

they introduce the “formative debts”

Year 2008

The low called “Maria Stella Gelmini”, introduces some news as:

• The vote for the behaviour.

• The unique teacher for the primary school.

• The agreement with the editors to mantain for 5 years the same price of the school books.

• The number of teachers and ATA is rationalized. • “Sanctions” for the authors of “bullism“.

Italian school today …

The school evolved, becoming a right for everyone.

In Italy, the scolastic system is divided in:• Primary school, of 5 years;• Secondary school of 1°grade, of 3 years;• Secondary school of 2°grade, of 5 years;• University.

Also our school changes …

Born like lower secondary school in 1943 and called “Scuola Media Governativa”, it was divided from “Liceo Ginnasio Gargallo”.It has the name of “scuola Media” in 1956 and it is dedicated to the poet Giuseppe Aurelio Costanzo, born in Melilli, Siracusa, on 6th February 1841. It is in the quarter of Ortigia, in via Nome di Gesù.

The school moves …

In 1969 the Scuola Media Costanzo moves to the quarter of Tiche, in V.le S. Panagia, where is still today.

The first headmaster was Dott. Pagliaro, who remains for 31 years, from 1946 to 1977.

Our school today …

In 2000 our school becomes “Istituto Comprensivo” and hosts students from the three orders of school:

• Nursery• Primary• Sec. of first grade.

Our present hedmaster is Dott.ssa Roberta

Guzzardi.
