Dear Parishioners and Friends:
Merry Christmas. What a great success the toy drive wasfor “Hour Children”. Sister Tesa was extremely gratefulfor all the toys and donations. In addition to the toys, wewere able to give sister a check for $1,600.00. Muchthanks to James Palazza and Dorinda Medley for all theirhard work. Thanks to all who donated; your generosityis greatly appreciated.
As people slowly start returning to church, it is so heart-warming to see familiar faces. It has reminded me howimportant our Church family is. In that spirit, we areplanning a virtual retreat with the theme “Parables andPoetry”. With joy, we welcome back Father JudeSiciliano O.P. and Sister Patricia Bruno O.P. who willguide the retreat. We pray that this not only lifts usspiritually but helps us reconnect with one another andcome together virtually in prayer. The retreat will be heldon four (4) Wednesdays at 10a.m. or 7p.m. The dates are:Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb. 10 and Feb. 17. Registration will beopen from Jan 3rd to Jan 15th. Contact William Moran bye-mail at [email protected]. Please referto the bulletin for more information.
Seminarian Kevin Noyola will be staying with us over hisChristmas break. Please welcome him and keep him andvocations to the priesthood in your prayers.
On December8, 2020, Pope Francis declared this year asthe year of St. Joseph. To commemorate this year, wewill light the candles at the statue of St. Joseph in thesanctuary every Sunday. Pope Francis has encouraged usto pray the following prayer to St. Joseph and, in thesedifficult days, to “Go to Joseph”.
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.
Wishing you and your families a very blessed and healthynew year!

SUPPORT THE PARISHANNUAL APPEAL
I pray this letter finds you safe and healthy. This year has been challenging for every member
of our parish and I want to thank all of you for the many sacrifices you have made to support
Blessed Sacrament. As 2020 comes to a close, it is time for our annual update regarding the
parish's finances. It will come as no surprise to anyone that the parish’s finances are a bit
stretched. With no Masses for four months and current Mass attendance at 1/3 what we
normally would have, our weekly donations are down 15%. Our tenants in the convent, The
Benincasa Community, have left the city leaving a gaping hole in our budget. Despite our best
efforts to continue to cut cost cuts we are struggling financially. We are preparing our Annual
Parish Appeal. We conduct The Annual Appeal every year to bridge the gap between the
weekly collection and parish expenses. We have already had a few generous donors contribute
a total of $230,000 toward our 2020 goal of $400,000. Here are a few of the parish’s needs:
Operating deficit $68,734
Loss of tenant in convent $77,000
Added cost of Façade Project $200,000
Shortfall from Renew + Rebuild pledges $54,266
TOTAL APPEAL $400,000
No surprise, the Facade project was much more expensive than we had originally anticipated.
The age of the stones made the project quite complex, causing it to run about two years longer
than expected. We are hopeful that this will finally be finished in spring and we may remove
the scaffolding unveiling our beautiful newly renovated church. We assure you that, 100% of
your donation will be put directly to work here in Blessed Sacrament. I look forward to
welcoming more of you back to weekly Mass on Sundays. Thank you for your prayers, your
good will and continuing support of our beautiful Blessed Sacrament.
Your Pastor,
David Nolan
