faded.

In October, I started writing my first book, an 84-page story about a football that could talk, feel, hear and his trials and tribulations in the games involving him. My brother illustrated

the book.

Above, part of program cover for 1970 Holmenkollen Ski Jumping

championships, attended by 100,000 people. At right, my scorekeeping

notes.

“We walked 1½ hours uphill in snow…so many other people were walking, too. It’s one of the things I remember most about Holmenkollen. Masses of

people walking through the snow to get to Holmenkollen!..According to Jakob Vaage’s 1968

book, The Holmenkollen Ski Jumping Hill, between 50,000‑60,000 people walk to Holmenkollen. That is the outstanding memory, not whether I was tired or

upset about walking.”

Torbjørn, one of Dad’s student research assistants, invited us to his cottage in

Southern Norway in June. He had to pick us up at a dock in this boat. His cottage

was the only one on this island.
