This week we learned about exceptions to the i before e and e before i. That means that there are some words that have ei/ie but they don’t follow the rule. For example, friend should have a long e sound because of how it is spelled, but it doesn’t.

How confusing is that?

MATH

We just keep swimming in our Water Ecology books. We found out more research about our river critters that we saw on the camping trip. We gathered information about animals. We had drawn in our little booklets to learn about them later in school.

Check this out, did you know crawdads live under two years? Some salamander tongues are ten times as long as their bodies.

Fascinating!Adam, Addy, and Arianna

NOTES FROM MS. TARMEY

Do you know what 129.3÷71.2 is? Well we do because that is what we have been learning in math class.

We also looked at how to divide fractions. We were taught to multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal. That means you switch the numerator and the denominator of the last fraction.

We brushed up on multiplying decimals. Those are the fun things we did in math this

week. Addy, Adam, and Arianna

Aaaargh! It’s ….it’s your pal Sh..Shakesbird. I am tired of this garbage smelling, rotten, old place (Peppito’s lair). He kidnapped me three days ago! Just wait until I get my wings on him. At least my partner in crime Willow is coming for a sneak attack today. All I have been doing is writing. Willow is going to take me to a Halloween Party. We are planning to play games, eat, cake, and dress up. I am going to have revenge on Peppito on Wednesday. Sorry, I have to go, Peppito is coming!

Your Pal,

Shakesbird

A BIRD’S EYE VIEW

Previously in the book The Transall Saga, Mark went to Trisad to find out there is no Shaman there. He talked a guy named The Short Man to find out if there is a Shaman. His answer was no. Short Man’s slave, Yonk, warned Mark about being a wanted man and that Short Man was planning to turn him in for the reward. Mark, Sarbo, and Yonk left the shed and headed to Listra.

Suddenly when they were leaving the desert a bunch of Samatin tribes people attacked them. They shot arrows and hit Sarbo on the side, wounding him. He couldn’t escape and Mark refused to leave Sarbo, so he got captured too. Mark got put in a cage that is small and was lifted off the ground by ropes.

The Samatin lived in an inactive volcano. In the middle of the night, Yonk came back to save Mark, but he got captured too! They both escaped because Yonk followed Mark’s directions. When they escaped, they rescued Sarbo and Mark used some volcanic ash to create an explosion. The explosion distracted the guards so they could escape.

We’re almost done with the book! We will tell you more next week. It is really exciting.

s

Creepy faces, squeaky voices, little people…What do you think that is? A puppet show! Dun, dun, dun, da!

Have you ever looked at those polka dots in the sky? Well those they are called stars. Do you see a spoon created out of polka dots? Well that group of stars is called the Big Dipper.

It all ended with little savage birds eating a bear. Who would have thought puppets could be so blood thirsty?

BANDBang, squeak…Welcome to the Circus…I

mean Band. When we play, Maestro says we still keep huffing and puffing a lot. So far in our band books we have gotten to number 26.

Next week we have Master Band on Friday. It is going to be fun so don’t forget your instrument.

We also have solos next week and if yours is good, Maestro gives you an apple. It would be cool if we could get candy or something, but apples are OK…I guess.

I hope everyone does good on their solo.
