Sara Jo Breslow | Social Science and Incubators Lead, UW EarthLab |Sara is an environmental anthropologist and transdisciplinarian working at the intersections of sustainability and social justice. Most of her field work has focused on the social and cultural aspects of environmental conflict and ecosystem recovery in the Puget Sound region. Previously, Sara worked on the Western Governors’ Association’s Get Out West! initiative to promote outdoor recreation, conservation, and health, and led development of human well-being indicators at NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center.

Joshua Lawler | Professor, UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences | Josh is a landscape ecologist and conservation biologist focused on applied conservation questions and their real-world applications. His research involves investigating the effects of climate change on species distributions and populations, exploring the influence of landscape pattern on animal populations and communities, and climate-change adaptation for natural and human systems. Recently, he has begun exploring how people make environmental decisions and what psychological benefits people gain from nature.

Terry Maresca, M.D. | Clinical Associate Professor, UW Department of Family Medicine and faculty, Seattle Indian Health Board and Puyallup Tribal Health Authority residency training programsDr. Maresca (Mohawk Tribe) is a family physician who has served American Indian communities for over 30 years. Her focus is blending indigenous teachings including plant medicine with Western approaches to health. She is a long-time volunteer for regional plant salvages and restorations, and practices seed saving and growing her own tribal traditional foods and medicine.

Joshua Brandon | University of Washington, Outdoor Research| Joshua is a grad student working with the University of Washington Nature and Veteran Research. He is also an Outdoor Research Ambassador and an Iraq veteran. He has a decade of experience working in conservation and outdoor interventions for veterans with PTSD. He is currently working with UW researchers to study the effects of nature on groups of veterans with PTSD.

Jeremy Grisham | Antioch University, Compass Health | Jeremy Grisham is a 12-year, retired, Navy Hospital Corpsman, eco-therapist and an intern as a MA CMHC student from Antioch University. Currently, Jeremy practices counseling and case management through brief treatment transitions for clients released from prison and those who are without insurance at a regional community mental health organization.

Pooja Tandon | Pediatrician and Researcher, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and Assistant Professor, University of Washington | Dr. Tandon’s current projects focus on studying the connection between physical activity, outdoor play and various health and development outcomes in children.

Amber Fyfe-Johnson, ND, PhD | Assistant Research Professor, Initiative for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH), College of Medicine, Washington State University | Dr. Fyfe-Johnson is a naturopathic physician and an epidemiologist. She received her BA from Whitman College, her ND from Bastyr University, and her PhD in epidemiology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Fyfe-Johnson completed a NIH T32 postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular disease prevention and epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, and is currently conducting a pilot study examining novel health outcomes in outdoor preschools. Her current work focuses on: 1) obesity prevention in childhood and adolescence, 2) pediatric health disparities, and 3) the interface between nature and health in youth.

Juan D. Martinez | Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Children and Nature Network, and CEO of Leaders in Action, LLC | Juan D. Martinez has over 10 years of non-profit management and implementation of strategy. A National Geographic Explorer and a TED Speaker he brings the power of ideas to life through community driven solutions. Juan has made a commitment to help empower the next generation of leaders dedicated to addressing systems of inequity and access to opportunities by working with community leaders, non-profits, and businesses across the country.

Richard Louv | Journalist and Author | Richard Louv sparked a conversation that led to an international movement to reconnect kids and nature. He coined the term “nature-deficit disorder,” influenced national policy, and inspired campaigns in more than 80 cities, states, and provinces throughout North America. His books have been translated into 13 languages, published in 17 countries and helped launch an international movement to connect children and their families to nature.Louv is Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Children & Nature Network, an organization helping build the international movement to connect people and communities to the natural world. With artist Robert Bateman, he serves as honorary co-chair of Canada’s Child in Nature Alliance.In 2008, was awarded the Audubon Medal, presented by the National Audubon Society. Louv has also received the 2009 International Making Cities Livable Jane Jacobs Award, 2008 San Diego Zoological Society Conservation Medal, 2008 George B. Rabb Conservation Medal from the Chicago Zoological Society and the 2007 Cox Award, Clemson University’s highest honor for “sustained achievement in public service.”

Ben Klasky | Philanthropic Advisor | Ben Klasky is a philanthropic advisor, helping families and foundations achieve significant impact with their philanthropy. He has worked with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, REI Co-op and some of the world's wealthiest individuals. Prior to this role, Ben served for over a decade as the CEO of IslandWood.

Scott Wyatt | Architect | Scott Wyatt is the former CEO and Chairman of NBBJ (retired, now consulting partner). He specialized in designing corporate headquarters around the world and led NBBJ’s corporate practice worldwide. Projects include: Samsung, Tencent, Amgen, McKinsey, Telenor, Welcome Trust, Microsoft, Amazon, Reebok, Nike, Russell Investments, Google, Adobe, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Hannaa Hamdi | Public Health Director at The Trust for Public Land | Hanaa A. Hamdi, Ph.D., is currently the national Public Health Director at The Trust for Public Land, where she directs the development of healthy and equitable communities. Dr. Hamdi is the former health commissioner for the City of Newark where she oversaw the Departments of Public Health and Human Services, Social and Environmental Services, and was the CEO of the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Centers, the City’s co-affiliate community-based medical centers. Prior to her work with the City of Newark, Dr. Hamdi was assistant professor of Family Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and a Senior Research Fellow at the Rutgers School of Nursing. With more than two decades of public health research and practice, Dr. Hamdi has dedicated her career to advancing health equity in low-income and communities of color. She holds a joint PhD in Public Health and Urban Community Design from Rutgers University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Her research examines the impact of social and structural inequities on health. More specifically, her work focuses on the interaction of community design, neighborhood features and population health outcomes. Hanaa is a native Eritrean. She grew up in San Diego, California and currently lives in New Jersey.Nalini M. Nadkarni | Professor, Department of Biology, University of Utah | Dr. Nadkarni, a professor of Biology at the University of Utah, began her studies of rainforest canopy organisms and interactions when she received her PhD from the UW College of Forest Resources. She has published over 130 scientific papers and three scholarly books on tropical and temperate canopy studies, supported by the National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society. She has innovated science engagement and conservation programs for non-traditional public audiences such as faith-based groups, urban youth, legislators, and the incarcerated. Nalini’s collaborations with artists, rap singers, and dancers have also raised awareness of the importance of nature to humans. Her national awards to bring conservation projects to prisoners include the AAAS Award for Public Engagement, Archie Carr Medal for Conservation, and the William Julius Wilson Award for Achievement in Social Justice.
