Book of the Month

For kids who love words, and for parents and teachers who want to get them interested in words, this is a treat. Both text and pictures are filled with wonderful words, some long, some short, but all fun to find and use. The words in the text are included in a glossary, but many of the words in the pictures are not, so their meanings will need to be tracked down.

This is a delightful book to spark or encourage a love of words, and to inspire family and class activities.

Game of the MonthDON’T SAY IT!

Don’t Say It can be used for any topic or skill. It is a game inspired by Taboo. In this classic game, a word is given at the top of the playing card. Underneath that word are 4-5 other words that students CAN NOT say in order to get their team to guess their word. This requires them to think even harder about their vocabulary word.

An all-in-one reference tool, Word Hippo does the following: defines a word, provides a meaning, provides a word that is opposite, pronounces a word, provides rhyming words, places the word in many different contexts, and translates the word.

Reading Challenge of the MonthEngage in conversations. Simply talking with your children can help them learn and discover new words. Once they hear a new word, remind them to jot it down so

that they can study it later -- and then slowly add the new word to their vocabulary. Consider starting a word journal. It's a good idea to keep a running list of the new words they discover so that your children can refer back to the list and slowly build the words into their everyday vocabulary.
