Desktop Publishing – Rethinking Layout for Design

GOAL: To create a trendy new layout for a print/graphic design product/document.

CONSIDER THIS:How can you show off your creative skills and develop a new eye-catching layout for this product or document?How can you redesign this product (packaging, look, shape, function, etc.)to make people want to buy it?What new layout can you use to make this product aesthetically appealing or artistic?What makes your new layout “new” and “cool”? What makes it stand out from other products?STEPS:

1. Brainstorm ideas with group

2. Develop 1 idea from group brainstorm

- If you have the same idea as another group, it must be significantly different (design, how it works, layout, etc.)

3. Create a Prototype

- Use Photoshop or any other program- Create an example of the actual product for others to see, touch,

and use- Print to S107-PS01 (black and white printer only)

4. Create a pitch to introduce your new layout to the class

- Discuss traditional layout for this type of product and what your group thought could be improved and why (layout)

- Introduce your idea and prototype o Why did you select this product?o Who will want this?o Explain the concept behind the redesign

- Answer questions from audienceROLES:

- Prototype Development

- President (oversees to make sure all members are on task/answers questions)

- Presenter (Speaks to the class)- Everyone contributes ideas, everyone helps out
