2017 Chartwells/St Ann’s College/ Playford Trust Residential Scholarships Outline: Working with government, the tertiary sector, industry and the community the Playford Trust provides a range of scholarships for high achieving South Australian students to develop the research and skills base required to advance areas of strategic importance for the state of South Australia. The Playford Trust in partnership with Chartwells and St Ann’s College offers two Residential Scholarships awarded to students residing at St Ann’s College; one to a student continuing to reside at the College and the other to a student enrolling for the first time. These scholarships are directed to promising students who have to overcome the practical and financial disadvantages associated with having their home base located in regional South Australia. The successful recipients will receive accommodation at St Ann’s College to the value of $7,000. Eligibility Criteria: 1. Students are enrolled at St Ann’s and will commence or continue with an undergraduate degree at one of the three South Australian universities in the following priority areas for the Trust: Agriculture and Food Production Water, Energy and Climate Change Advanced Manufacturing and New Technologies Mining and Resources Development. 2. Students are Australian citizens or a holder of a permanent resident visa who have their family base in regional South Australia. 3. Students must show potential for high achievement, with an excellent secondary school or university academic record. Residential Scholarships

Outline:Working with government, the tertiary sector, industry and the community the Playford Trust provides a range of scholarships for high achieving South Australian students to develop the research and skills base required to advance areas of strategic importance for the state of South Australia.

The Playford Trust in partnership with Chartwells and St Ann’s College offers two Residential Scholarships awarded to students residing at St Ann’s College; one to a student continuing to reside at the College and the other to a student enrolling for the first time. These scholarships are directed to promising students who have to overcome the practical and financial disadvantages associated with having their home base located in regional South Australia. The successful recipients will receive accommodation at St Ann’s College to the value of $7,000.

Eligibility Criteria:1. Students are enrolled at St Ann’s and will commence or continue with an undergraduate

degree at one of the three South Australian universities in the following priority areas for the Trust:

Water, Energy and Climate Change

Advanced Manufacturing and New Technologies

Mining and Resources Development.

2. Students are Australian citizens or a holder of a permanent resident visa who have their family base in regional South Australia.

3. Students must show potential for high achievement, with an excellent secondary school or university academic record. Allowance can be made for practical and other disadvantages due to remoteness from Adelaide.

4. Students are of good character with preference given to students who display leadership potential.

Nomination and Selection ProcessThe Playford Trust calls for nominations from applicants recommended by St Ann's College who are enrolled at the College, with St Ann’s recommending the highest calibre students through an internal process that takes account of the selection criteria.

The Trust reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the nominations if it considers the nominees do not reflect the objectives of the Trust or do not meet the high standards consistent with the status of this award. The Board of the Playford Trust will make the final selection.

Important information when completing the application form:1. The student must be an Australian citizen or a holder of a permanent resident visa and is likely

to spend a significant part of their career in South Australia or is likely to provide a benefit to the State. The Trust does not support interstate or overseas students currently undertaking studies in South Australia.

2. Please complete all fields of the application form and make sure all information requested is provided to assist in the selection process.

3. The student must complete sections 1 and 2.

4. Students must seek comments about their achievements, character and leadership potential from St Ann’s or a referee from their university or secondary school to complete section 3 of the application form.

5. Students must attach their latest academic record to the application form. For continuing students this will be their final official transcript of academic results. Students should include their Grade Point Average (GPA) in the appropriate field. Students commencing their university studies must attach their official SACE Record of Achievement, SATAC Scaled Scores for Tertiary Entrance and Tertiary Entrance Statement to the application and include their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in the appropriate field.

Lodging the Application Form:The closing date for applications is Friday 20 January 2017.
