Trust God Prayer Card

Supplies: colored cardstock or construction paper hearts pencils markers or crayon stickers single-hole punch ribbon or yarn mini lollipops tape

Introduce the activity by saying: God the Father wants us to trust him. Sometimes we forget. We are going to make Trust God Prayer Cards that you can keep with you to remind you that you can trust God the Father. He will always take care of you and protect you.

Guide the children in the following steps:1. Give each child 2 hearts2. In pencil, write, "God, my Father" on the first heart; then write, "I trust you" on the second heart.3. Trace over the words in marker.4. Decorate the first heart with markers and/or stickers.5. Tape a small lollipop to the second heart.6. Using the hole-punch, make two holes at the top of both hearts.7. Tie ribbon or yarn through the holes, connecting the two hearts and making a card.

Bird treats:

Supplies for bird treats:

Precut slightly stale bread slices cut into heart shapes with a cookie cutter Sun butter/Wow butter (non-nut alternative to peanut butter) Birdseed Plastic knives plastic sandwich bags (for transport) sponges or wipes for sticky fingers paper or plastic to cover workspace yarn or string (optional)

Steps:1. Introduce the activity by saying: We can make good choices to take care of God's creation. We can choose to become a shepherd to a flock of birds by making a healthy treat forthem to eat.

Guide the children in the following steps:2. Spread sun butter onto the bread cutout with a plastic knife.3. Sprinkle birdseed on top.4. Allow birdseed to set before placing in a plastic bag.5. Discuss sites to place bird treats at home, or choose a place on parish grounds to hang them all together. Use yarn as a hanger if necessary, but encourage finding creative ways to place feeders on branches and other alternatives as an earth-friendly option.

Next week’s sponge: Chapter 4 Activity Master

2nd Grade Lesson 3 SupplementalAs children arrive

*hang faith words index cards on bulletin board*write Trinity lyrics on board (below)Ch 2 worksheet (from last week)Have Trinity cups on prayer table (see attached photo)

Prayer Time1. Teach procession – sing/cheer (and clap):

The Trinity, the TrinityThree in One.God the FatherAnd God the Son.God the Holy SpiritTrinity OneThree in the Trinity, Three in One.

Select leaders to carry candle, cross & bible. Line up and process to table.Read Luke 12:29-31 & ask What Do You Wonder questions.

2. Read p. 87 Let Us Pray3. Ask children to describe one of the readings from mass on Sunday. Reward with candy.

Activity 4. Point out the cups stacked on the prayer table. Show how they are each separate then put them together to form 1 cup / one God. (see photos)

5. Everyone stand up.6. Who is the first in the Trinity? God the Father loves and cares for us because we are His

children, like your parents love and care for you. Just like you can always trust your parents, you can always trust God. Stand up, let’s act like God the Father, give your neighbor a hug.

7. Who is the second in the Trinity? Jesus, God the Son, sets and example for us with His life and teachings. How did Jesus act? (Did He do Saintly type actions) Like what? Act like Jesus on the cross, arms out.

8. And the third in the Trinity? The word Spirit means “movement of air, wind, breathing”. Have students stand up and make the sound of the wind, to symbolize the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples. Now take a big breath – imagine that you just breathed in God who will go into your heart and help you make good choices and become more loving.

9. So now let’s re-sing our song with hand motions (God the Father = hug yourself, God the Son = arms out on a cross, God the Holy Spirit = waving arms like wind)

DiscussGod the Father created us and everything. How do we talk to God? Prayer is talking and listening to God.When do we pray? (anytime)How can we pray? (silently, out loud, talk to God, say a prayer that we know, pray for someone else, pray for something we need, etc……)
