Position purpose
The role of Research Support Librarian is to develop and maintain sustainable and relevant research support services for Victoria researchers, in line with agreed Library strategies and priorities and the University’s Primary Strategy 2: Enhance research quality, quantity and impact.
Position location
The Research Services Librarian is located in the Library Research Services team, within the Library Academic and Research Services directorate.
The role of the Library is to support and enhance learning, teaching and research at Victoria University; we will do this by directly aligning Library Services with University priorities and future direction, and by working in partnership with staff, students and stakeholders.
Strategic context
The Library’s Strategy Map aligns to Victoria’s Strategic Plan. The Special Collections Librarian will help the University Library achieve its goals by providing high quality research services for the scholarly community.
Key responsibilities University-wide research support activities
Develop close and collaborative relationships with other University research support services to contribute to pan-University initiatives. In particular:o Work closely with Research Office, Planning and Management Information team and ITS to
develop and deliver focused training and support for researchers across the University;o Develop and deliver programmes and services to support Open Access and contribute to the
development of Open Access strategies for the Universityo Provide Library expertise in the development of University Research Data Management
(RDM) guidelines and assist with embedding RDM practices across the University;o Provide institutional-level analysis and reporting on citation metrics for the Planning and
Information Management team, to assist with reporting on University KPIso Work with the Research Office and Digital Initiatives team to integrate the Institutional
Repository with the Research Publications system;
Library-wide research support service development
Provide expertise in research impact and analytics, scholarly communication and publishing, research data management and open access.
Design and develop a research support training programme for the University research community, in the above areas. This includes the development of workshops along with other training solutions relevant to the research lifecycle.
Manage, monitor and ensure promotion of the programme to meet the needs of researchers, and the University’s strategies.
Develop a framework for providing research impact analysis and reporting for academic staff. Provide input to the strategy and development of Library research support initiatives, which are
informed by the Library’s Research Support Strategy. Take a lead in the development and implementation of Library research support initiatives as
required.

Capability building
Lead the research support capability building of all Library staff through:o The development and delivery of effective training programmes and tools in research impact
and analytics, scholarly communication and publishing, research data management and open access.
o Ensure Subject Librarians are able to effectively support research activities within their respective portfolios.
o Contribute to Library workforce development by identifying and facilitating external training and development opportunities
Key relationships
The Research Services Librarian will develop and maintain productive relationships with the following:
Colleagues across the Library Academic and Research Services directorate in order to facilitate the collaborative provision of Library research support services.
Subject Librarians for the purpose of capability development and dissemination of services and support programmes.
Research Office, Learning & Research Technology team (ITS) and the Planning and Management Information team to provide a joined up approach in the delivery of key University strategies.
Senior Communications and Marketing Adviser in order to ensure the effective promotion of key initiatives.
