Principal’s Message We want to thank all of our parents/guardians that were able to meet with us for their child’s conference this week. Our effectiveness in educating our students is dependent on the level of communication established between school and home. We realize this is a two-way street. Your partnership in our efforts is greatly appreciated. If you did not have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a time. If you have specific questions, concerns or simply want to share your insights, please do not hesitate to contact our school. Our goal is to improve daily which can only happen with your support, confidence and wisdom. Morning Drop-OffDuring morning-drop off, please stay in your car if you are in the drop-off lane. Please also pull all the way to the front of the line. If you do get out of your car, please park and cross at the cross walk. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are also currently looking for a parent or two who would like to volunteer outside during morning drop-off to ensure a smooth process. This will in turn have a positive impact on classrooms as children can enter school relaxed and calm after going through a smooth drop-off lane versus stressed after going through a chaotic drop-off lane.

If you are interested in volunteering, please let Dr. W know by calling 874-8721 or emailing him at [email protected].

We Need Your HelpPlease be sure to make transportation arrangements prior to the start of the school day. Lunch money, required homework assignments, transportation plans, etc., should be finalized before leaving home in the morning. This can be referenced in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Also, as the weather is turning colder, please make sure that your students have appropriate clothing for recess. Our students go outside unless it below 15 degrees. Please make sure kids have coats, hats, and gloves. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Morning Drop-Off   Wow! We have had a wonderful start to the 2015-2016 school year. At this point, we would ask that parents please say goodbye to their child before their child enters the school. School staff is available to help make sure children get to their classroom, if needed. We appreciate your understanding as we help our students become responsible, independent learners.

Square 1 ArtPlease do not forgot to order your Square 1 Art items by next Wednesday, November 11th! You can place your orders online at Square1art.com using your child's art ID number or by filling out the paper order form your child brought home and returning it to school. Your orders for the art fundraiser are greatly appreciated! Please contact me if you have any further questions.Mrs. Rimelspach-Zare, 419-874-8721 X 3130 or [email protected]

Frank Hosts JA in a Day! On Thursday, November 5th, Frank Elementary School welcomed several members of the business community to host JA in a Day!. JA in a Day! is a special Junior Achievement delivery method that facilitates the partnership between a business and a school. Like all JA programs, business volunteers involved in this program help to educate and inspire youth about free enterprise, business, and economics.

JA in a Day! is different from other JA programs only in that

the entire JA in-school program is covered in the course of one school day. At the end of the day, the students have completed all five JA lessons and have earned their JA certificate. Normally, this process would take five weeks to complete. Volunteers for the day came to Frank Elementary School from Owens-Illinois (O-I) and Eaton. Those volunteers included: Diana Reveron, Shelby Verne, Rachel Studer, Gary Syzmanski, Tom Dixon, Annette Prehn, Chris Chisholm, Neel Sapre, Mark Kott, Kathie McCarter, Chris Schwab, Colleen Switlik, Sabrina Weaver, Kristie Upton, Chad Achenbach, Eric Durrant, Jyostna Phadke, Harry Davidson, Carl Swanson, Aaron Clark, Doris Showalter, Mike Seitz, Nikki Hartbarger, Lauren Bedran, Canan Meyers, and Karen McConnachie. Please enjoy the fun pictures from JA in a Day today!:)

Halloween Parade/Parties – We had fun! On Friday, October 31th, Frank Elementary School held the annual Halloween Parade, followed by classroom parties. Below you will find pictures of our fun!

Got Grit?! The ability to show gratefulness and practice gratitude is an important part of fostering a growth mindset in students. Gratitude is defined as... “affirming that there are good things in the world — gifts and benefits that we’ve received — and recognizing that these sources of goodness come

from outside ourselves.” (Vicki Zakrzewski, Director — Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley). Gratitude is worth practicing and teaching for so many real and observable reasons.

The act of expressing gratitude is closely linked with our feelings of optimism, empathy, and levels of energy. When children can-and want to- express gratitude they begin to lose feelings of entitlement and increase their hope and confidence in social well-being. When students express gratitude they want to give back to others and are thankful for what they do have, as opposed to stressing out over what they don’t have. This pro-social behavior emphasizes the benefactor and helps to build strong and loyal relationships. In the classrooms we are having intentional conversations about how we show our gratitude and thankfulness to others who give of themselves and help us. The upcoming months will provide many opportunities for us to all show our gratitude to people who share kindness and in turn make our lives so meaningful. Please ask your students to think of ways they will demonstrate gratitude and thankfulness.

November Grit Challenge for Home

Book ReviewsOn the morning announcements, there are book reviews of popular children’s books. So far, we have done book reviews on popular books such as Heartprints, The Lovables in the Kingdom of Self-Esteem, and Daredevil Duck.

If your child reads a great book and would like to write a book review, we would be happy to have your child read the book review on the AM announcements.

Frank PE Student of the Month: Jake WoodFrank Elementary School is excited to announce the winner of our October “Physical Education Student of the Month” award.  This award is rotated among all grade levels. Students who are chosen for this award show a positive attitude, extra effort, and good sportsmanship. We are pleased to announce that our recipient is Jake Wood. He is recognized for his efforts in making PE a positive experience

each class period, and always displaying excellent sportsmanship. Jake is a fourth grade student in Mrs. Freels' class.  Great job, Jake!

Children Who Volunteer Learn MoreChildren learn important lessons when families volunteer together. They learn about kindness. They see citizenship in action. They learn people are more alike than different. Children who volunteer regularly are more likely to get better grades in school. They know more about future careers than those who don’t volunteer. To get your whole family volunteering:• Decide on volunteer projects as a family.• Start small. Try some one-time projects at first.

• Look for projects that let kids do something real.• Talk about what you do and see. Be sure to praise your

childfor the things she did. "I was so proud of you when you carried the tray for that mother. She needed a hand!"

Holiday Concert InformationOur Frank Holiday Concert, featuring grades 1, 3, and 5 will take place Thursday, December 10th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Frank Elementary Cafeteria. The doors will not open until 6:00pm.

They will begin singing promptly at 8:00pm.

FPC NewsFirst of all, a long overdue thank you to our Monster Mash dance chairs, Karri Knoblauch and Maggie Laube. Also, to everyone who donated to, volunteered at and attended the

dance. Even with Friday night football, this event keeps growing more and more each year.

Our last movie night was held on October 16th. The feature was Hotel Transylvania. There will be no movie in November, so please plan to join us on December 4th for Disney’s Inside Out. The October meeting was held on October 13th. During this meeting we voted on and approved the FPC budget for the current school year. We also voted to purchase classroom items with the proceeds from last year’s Caddy Shack Classic golf outing. Several teachers had requested stability balls. There were two teachers that already have stability balls and instead requested large rugs for their classrooms. Those items have all been ordered and should be arriving soon!

Spirit wear examples are on display at the main entry until Friday. Order forms will also be sent home with your kiddos in case you missed them during conferences. We are offering 2 designs with 3 color choices. T-shirts are being sold for $4 each, crew neck sweatshirts for $9 each, and hooded sweatshirts for $13 each. You also have the option of adding a name to the back for an additional $3 per item. Order forms are due to the school office no later than November 27th to ensure delivery in time for Christmas gifts.

Finally, the annual Learning Express fundraiser is being held November 13-15th at the Fallen Timbers location. The store will donate 20% of your total shopping bill to FPC, however you must present a coupon at the time of purchase. Coupons were out during conferences and should also be coming home in the folders soon. This is a great opportunity

to get some holiday shopping out of the way while benefiting FPC.

Please join us at our next meeting on November 10th beginning at 6:30pm in the Frank Elementary library. Child care will be available in the gymnasium.

Use Curiosity toMotivate LearningChildren whose accomplishments are smothered by rewards such as candy, money and excessive praise often feel they are only successful if they get assistance or such rewards.Successful learners are “intrinsically” motivated—stimulated more by their own curiosity than by any reward or bonus. They are rewarded internally for their own successes. To promote intrinsic motivation, parents can:• Allow reasonable independence to explore. When your

child hasfreedom in play, it allows him to see the effects of his actions. When he creates something with building blocks, he has something tangible that represents his efforts.• Provide learning challenges that will increase your

child’smotivation and strengthen his feelings of success. For example, if he has just learned a part of the multiplication table, challenge him to move on to the next part.• Ask your child to evaluate his own efforts. Ask, “How do

you

feel about this paper you just wrote? Are you proud of your effort?”• Avoid excessive rewards and praise. Instead, commenton your child’s effort and persistence, as opposed to his actual accomplishments. For example, “You have been working on your math homework for an hour. I am really impressed with your diligence.”
