[Ivy Advising] Tutor.Com Flag

Dear Don Maitz,

A student in your class named Rachel Lands accessed tutor.com through a link in Canvas. Tutor.com alerted Ivy Tech that this student demonstrated low prerequisite knowledge and struggled to achieve mastery of the topic covered during the tutoring session. We encourage you to make contact with the student using their Ivy Tech email [email protected] or speak with them  before/after class to determine if they need additional assistance with course material.

Some students feel uncomfortable working directly with faculty when they struggle in class since faculty assign grades. Assisting students in setting up study groups, connecting them to Supplemental Instruction leaders (if available), or urging their engagement with Tutoring Centers or tutor.com are good alternatives for any student.

Thank you all for your assistance and support in this project,

[Ivy Advising] 3rd Week Survey

Dear Don,

One of the best ways to ensure the success of our students is to track their progress. To do this, we need your help!

We are utilizing Ivy Advising to help us make the process of reporting on the academic progress of our students as easy and efficient as possible. With the academic progress information provided by you, our advisors can be proactive in meeting with students to adjust their plans for the upcoming semester, assisting with financial aid issues, guiding students to support services, and discussing obstacles students are facing this semester.

On 5/1/2014 12:00 PM EDT, you will be asked to respond to an Ivy Advising Survey for the course sections listed below. Please note that these courses are those where you are listed as an instructor in Canvas. If there are courses in which you are not the assigned instructor, please do not complete the survey. To prevent receiving future surveys for these classes, please update your relationship in Canvas by removing yourself from the course. Thank you.

Here's how it will work:

1. You will receive an email message that will include instructions and a list of your outstanding progress surveys, organized by course section.

1. Once you follow the instructions and reach the survey grid, simply check the box next to the particular student's name for whom you would like to report progress. You will have options to add comments. These comments are sent to the student.  Please write them as you would like the student to see them.

2. Click Submit.

If you have several concerns for a student, please only raise the academic concern flag and address your concerns in your comment to the student. Then click Submit.

If you don't have any concerns, it is important that you check No Feedback and click submit, so we know you reviewed the survey. You will receive a confirmation email.

The appropriate advisor will be notified of your flags and take any appropriate actions to reach out to the student to help ensure his/her success.

The survey will be available until  5/10/2014 12:00 PM EDT

Thank you for your participation! We appreciate your dedication to student success.

[Ivy Advising] 3rd Week Survey

Dear Don Maitz,

The College has invested resources in tools to assist in the efforts to ensure the success of our students. We are looking for your help to make these tools as effective as possible. Ivy Advising (our team of academic advisors across the state) has the benefit of a software solution (Starfish Retention Solutions by Hobsons) that will help us make the process of reporting on the academic progress of your students as easy and efficient as possible. It works in conjunction with our existing Canvas system and Banner. With this knowledge advisors can be proactive in meeting with students to adjust their plans for the upcoming semester, assist with financial aid issues, and discuss what obstacles students incurred this semester.

Please click the link below and login to Ivy Advising. You will be directed to your outstanding surveys based on the courses you are teaching. Once you reach the flag survey grid, simply check the box next to the particular student's name where you have a concern. Those concern options include Academic Concern, Attendance/Participation Concern, Missing and Late Assignments, Positive Academic Performance and Showing Improvement. If you have several concerns for a student, please only raise the academic concern flag and address your concerns in your comment to the student. Then click Submit. If you don't have any concerns, just click Submit. The appropriate advisor will be notified of your flags and take any appropriate actions to reach out to the student to help ensure his/her success. If you need additional help in order to raise these flags there is a visual tutorial found in the Faculty Services Tab under Advising Resources.

This survey begins on [Invalid Field]. 5/1/2014 12:00 PM EDT
