About Wingspan ArtsWingspan Arts is a non-profit organization that is fully insured and professionally managed. We hold our programs ON-SITE at BSI/TAOTS, and work in partnership with BSI/TAOTS to offer semester-long afterschool arts enrichment classes that meet once a week. The program is staffed by Site Director(s), Site Assistant(s), and professional Teaching Artists.

A Day at Wingspan Arts• When students are dismissed from school, they are escorted to Wingspan’s central meeting area.• Students are provided with a snack and an option of arts based activities from school dismissal until 3:30 PM• Arts enrichment classes run for 90 minutes from 3:15 - 4:45P M.• Pick-up runs from 4:45 - 6:00 PM. Students again participate in a choice of arts based activities, other

supervised games, or homework.• Pick-up ends promptly at 6:00 PM. A fee of $1/minute will be charged for any students remaining after 6 PM;

fee increases after third late pick-up. *Consistent early pick-ups (before 4:45PM) will not be accommodated.

Tax InformationOur afterschool programs may be claimed as a childcare expense on your taxes, or used with a flex spending account! Our Federal Tax ID is 13-4189808, and our office can provide you with a formal receipt.

Financial AidWingspan Arts has a long tradition of providing need-based financial aid to our incredible afterschool communities. We do our best to ensure that every child has access to the arts, regardless of their ability to pay the full tuition for our programs. Refund Policy• If your child is not satisfied with his/her afterschool class, and withdraws within the first two weeks,

we offer a full credit to your Wingspan Arts account to be used for a future class or Half-Day program. • After the first two weeks, we offer a pro-rated credit amount to your Wingspan Arts account.• If you wish instead to be refunded to your credit card, Wingspan Arts charges a $50 refund fee.

Monday

Grades K-1 – Super Soccer Stars *$40 Insurance Fee Come and learn about the world’s most popular sport in this fun and active class. Super Soccer Stars will teach you basic skills, warm-ups, and tips on how to keep fit. Sign up, build your self-confidence, and become part of the Super Soccer Stars team. Grades 1-2 – Improv Workshop Students will learn the skills of Acting and Improvisation in this hands-on, spontaneous theatre class. Actors will learn the basic rules of improv to develop and hone their skills as performers. They will learn to SAY YES and “roll with it” through their exploration of acting techniques, games, and exercises. Students will create exciting characters, conflicts, and stories by using their voices, bodies, and imaginations. The class will culminate in an improv performance for all to enjoy! Grades 1-3 – Intermediate Chess with Ready, Set, Chess *$40 Materials Fee Experienced chess players will enjoy learning advanced checkmating patterns, tactics, and opening principles in this exciting and fast-paced course. Learn how to trap your opponent with the Fried Liver Attack! Study the games of famous chess masters like Paul Morphy, Bobby Fischer, and Magnus Carlsen. Each semester will culminate with an in-class chess tournament, complete with prizes and trophies, through which students will be able to put into practice all they have learned. Grades 2-4 – Yoga Breathe deeply. Meditate. Stretch. Move! Through the ancient art of yoga, students will gain flexibility and have the freedom to dance and explore creative movement. These yoga sessions will combine emotional reflection, light stretching, breathing, various yoga poses, and meditation. Students will learn downward facing dog, upward facing dog, child’s pose, windmill pose, frog pose, tortoise pose and more! By the end of the semester, students will feel peaceful sharing all they’ve learned in a yoga demonstration. Namaste.

Grades 3-5 – 3D Artists Let’s build! This class is a 3D visual arts class with an emphasis on creativity, fun, and invention! Students will learn sculpture methods using clay, foam, wire, and more. Through pottery, ceramics, statues, and abstract sculpture - students will learn the different techniques necessary to become a true 3D Artist.

Grades 4-6 – Circus Arts Structured silliness is the order of the day as students use clowning, juggling, and tumbling to express their inner goofball! Commedia dell'arte mask work puts comedy in historical perspective, while juggling improves hand-eye coordination. Every student will develop their own clown, a unique and personal expression of their sense of humor, and work together in team-building activities to culminate in one crazy adventure!

Tuesday Grades K-1 – Dance Me a Story Dance is one of the most graceful and exciting ways to tell a story. The students in this class will use stories to inspire choreography. Blending the exciting elements of plot, music dynamics, and movement, students in this class will integrate their learning into a spectacular visual story. Watch them skip, bop, and shimmy their way from “Once Upon a Time” to “Happily Ever After”! Grades 1-3 – Sculptor’s Studio Let’s build! This club is a 3-D visual arts class with an emphasis on creativity, fun and invention! Students will learn sculpture - clay, foam, paper, wire; carving - linoleum, potatoes, soap; 3-D printing; mobile, and collage. Art lessons will be based on technique, craft media and art history. The students will create pieces of art that reflect their own ideas and imagination, and also work on group sculptures focusing on themes of community and teamwork.

Grades 2-4 – Actor’s Toolkit In Actor’s Toolkit, students will build their skills in imaginative storytelling and improvisation. Through theatre games and ensemble-building exercises, the actors in this class will learn about character development, plot structure, and scene study. Students will use their actor tools of body, voice, and imagination to tell stories in a creative and expressive way. The actors will develop their emotional awareness and social skills, while also building their toolkit to become great performers!

Grades 3-5 – Mad Science * $60 Materials Fee Calling all mad scientists! This class is full of bizarre experiments guaranteed to amaze every participant! Every class involves gooey, slimy, scientific fun, most of which can be taken home from class. Discover how cool science can be in our MAD SCIENTIST LAB! Grades 3-6 – Athletic All-Stars A high-energy class filled with relays, ball games, and circle activities! Students will learn new and exciting games that involve everyone in a full kinetic experience. This class is designed to sharpen team building and leadership skills. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their own games as well!

Wednesday

Grades K-1 – Fairytale Theatre Fairies and goblins and elves, oh my! Students will combine storytelling with theatre and let their imaginations soar in this creative drama class. Young artists will explore classic fairytales and bring them to the stage each week. They will also create a their own and bring new characters to life! This class will culminate in the performance of a fairytale! Grades K-7 – Karate with KP for Kids Beginning Karate: White – Advanced Blue Belt Advanced Karate: Yellow – Black Belt *$40 Insurance Fee, $30 Uniform Fee, $100 Advanced Fee

Advanced Karate Extended 30 minute section (optional)

Students will spend an extra half hour each week perfecting the art of karate. Dedicated students train in kumite, advanced kata, meditation, and choreographed fight combinations.

KP for Kids is a professional karate afterschool program staffed with well-trained instructors who demonstrate respectful behavior in an active, physical, fun-loving environment. It is KP’s philosophy that all children must be treated respectfully in order to emulate that behavior towards others. Additionally, children should have access to a safe, healthy, encouraging afterschool activity that will help develop not only their physical abilities but their mental focus and concentration. KP for Kids offers this in a goal oriented traditional belt karate program with the addition of incorporating healthy Pilates exercises to promote core strength for all activities.

Grades 2-4 – Game Design *$15 Materials Fee

Grab your dice, create a character, and go where your imagination takes you! In Game Design students will learn how to design their own role-playing games through a variety of thinking strategies and hands-on exercises. Dynamic character drawings, imaginative storytelling, and action-based rule-making are concepts students will explore as they learn the mechanics of choices and outcomes, order of operations, and collaborative play. This class will combine visual arts and creative play to build the ultimate gaming zone.

Grades 3-5 – Songwriter’s Studio Students will examine the craft of songwriting through the use of poetry, percussion, and singing. Students will write songs both individually and as an ensemble, and each student will develop proper singing techniques and a core understanding of musical vocabulary. By the end of the semester, students will write and perform their own original songs!

Thursday

Grades K-1 – Painter’s Palette Discover the world of art with a Wingspan Arts Teaching Artist as your guide! Students will explore art from across the globe. Through different folktales, celebrations, and traditions, students are going to bring the world to their classroom. Students will gain experience in drawing and painting as well as mixed media and sculpture. This is a great class in which to explore a variety of artistic mediums and art styles from around the world! Grades 1-3-Crayola Artist’s Passport with Mad Science *$60 Materials Fee Embark on an around-the-world cultural adventure − explore far-off places and learn about the people who live there, from the Americas to Polynesia, from the cosmopolitan to the countryside. Experiment with Crayola® products, while trying art techniques developed by local artists and artisans. Make different masterpieces each week such as drums, masks, canvases, prints, buses, and more! Bring the unique creations home and build a globally-inspired art gallery.

Grades 2-4 – Pop Choir Students will become “pitch perfect” by joining the vocal ensemble in Pop Choir. Singers will learn about melodies, harmonies, acapella, and solo performances while singing their favorite pop hits. Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendez, and Bruno Mars are just some of the musical influences inspiring the singers in this class. Students will perform their greatest hits at the end of the semester! Grades 3-5 – Future Choreographers Students will be introduced to creative movement styles, as well as the value of a great choreographer! Dancers in this class will experience dance styles such as jazz, ballet, hip hop, funk, and swing, and then generate their own choreography. With a focus on leadership, ensemble-work, and creativity, this class will result in students choreographing their own unique dance performances. Grades 4-6 – Advanced Chess with Ready, Set, Chess *$40 Materials Fee This course is designed for the advanced player who is interested in delving deeply in to the game and prepare for tournament play. In this course, students will take a deeper look into opening systems, learn to solve multiple move checkmates, and put together tactics to create winning combinations. Emphasis will be placed on developing tournament skills such as notation, sportsmanship, and playing with chess clocks. Each semester will culminate in an in-class tournament, complete with prizes and trophies, through which students will be able to put into practice all they have learned.

Friday Grades K-1 – Beginning Chess with Ready, Set, Chess *$40 Materials Fee Playing chess promotes intellectual growth and improves students' academic performance. Through learning how to play chess, students learn strategic thinking and the value of planning ahead, patience, perseverance, and determination. In this course, students who are new to the game of chess will learn how to coordinate pieces to attack and defend, how to castle, and how to checkmate their opponents. Students will also be introduced to chess tactics (including the pin, fork, and skewer), as well as basic checkmating patterns. Each semester will culminate with an in-class chess tournament, complete with prizes and trophies, through which students will be able to put into practice all they have learned.

Grades 1-2 – Lego Masters *$15 Materials Fee Learn how to become Lego-smart! This class will introduce teamwork, observation, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills all through the fun of Legos. Students will build towns, spaceships, bridges, railroads, artwork, and a whole lot more in this exciting class! Grades 1-3 – Modern Music Through songs, games and exercises, students will explore the fundamentals of music and composition. Dynamics, tempo, pitch, melody, beat and rhythm will be the focus of this exciting music composition class. The musicians will learn about different instruments and develop skills in songwriting while looking at popular songs in modern day music. Students will learn singing techniques, build their knowledge of music theory and terminology, and create their own sounds in Modern Music.

Grades 4-6 – Fencing *$60 Insurance Fee En garde! Learn the art, discipline, and sport of fencing. We will be learning the basics of sabre fencing technique from footwork to parries and reposts to conducting a bout. We will learn the history of swordplay and even study a bit of theatrical technique and its differences and similarities to the sport. A very physical class, be prepared to have fun and learn a lot!
