Beginnings
Inspired by God to care for those who had faithfully served the Lord, the Reverend Dr. Franklin S. Dyrness opened the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in 1948 on the property next to his home and the church he pastored in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
How We’ve Grown
Over the decades, Quarryville purchased additional land and built more buildings to accommodate the ever-increasing needs of the Community. Today, we offer residential apartment living in the Dyrness and McElwain Buildings, Personal Care in the Long and Thompson Buildings, and Skilled Care and Dementia Care in the Thompson Building. In 2010, we broke ground on our Great Rock neighborhood, which includes four different cottage floor plans. The Tifffany Center is a place for residents to gather for the numerous activities we provide. Chapel services, concerts and other enriching programs are offered in the Ellingsworth Auditorium. At the heart of the campus is the Commons, a community gathering space which features an indoor pool, walking track, fitness center, activity rooms, a bistro, a great room for special events, and a terrace with an outdoor fireplace and pizza oven. The Commons is a place to come together to meet, eat, exercise and relax. For those who enjoy the outdoors, Quarryville has a newly renovated network of walking trails centered around Five Stones Pond. A dock on the bank of the pond provides an ideal setting to fish, operate a remote-controlled boat or just relax and watch the sunrise.
Continued Growth
We are excited that the 36 cottages built as part of Phase One of our Great Rock expansion are complete and we have commenced construction on Phase Two. Phase Two will include 14 cottages and 36 villa apartments. Later phases will likely include 30 additional cottages and a 64-unit residential living apartment building.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide for the spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs of our residents through high quality facilities, services and personal care in a manner faithful to the Bible and honoring our Lord, Jesus Christ.
