whyWhy we have set you this project.
What we hope you will gain by undertaking this project?
The purpose of this short project is
to enable you to .........
• make work quickly• support your planning and time management• explore ideas • tell stories - what is your narrative? • develop communication skills
why
• It’s an opportunity to test out ideas within a brief. You can create a finished product, work collaboratively or try out a context you have not worked with before – you are to define your working practice.
Context - interior
• What is interior?• What can an interior be?• Was it always like this? Is it a good thing?
Brief
• You are asked to investigate the theme of interior using visual and text based strategies.
Brief
• You may want to respond to your own interior, look at historical homes, stately homes, Modernist homes, homelessness, social housing or homes in different countries or cultures.
Brief
• You may want to consider comfort or a sense of what an interior can offer.
• What could that be?
Brief
• Following your investigation you need to develop a range of designs that respond to your research. You should also define the context for the designs. The materials and processes that you use and the context for the work are entirely your choice.
Brief
• You will need to explain your decision making process in the presentation of your outcomes.
Project Outcomes• Design conclusions that respond to the theme
of Interiors.• Evidence of your conclusions in context.• Evidence of research and development
process.• Evidence of materials selection.• Evidence of visual research.• Evidence of reflective thinking.
Indicative Content
• Material development• Design development• Presentation skills• Colour development
Advice
• Remember that this project runs in parallel with project 1 - your research report project.
Advice
• You need to ensure that you manage your workload therefore effective planning from the outset is essential.
Advice
• Use the workshops to test ideas and processes. You may not reach fully resolved technical conclusions but what you do may inform further study.
Advice
• Keep a technical file that documents your materials research.
Advice
• You should also ensure that you document all of your contextual research. This will help you in responding to contemporary ideas relating to spaces, home interiors etc.
