007 Museum Visual Inventory

Cameron ParkApril 12, 2015

Hello, Mr. Bond. This document contains a collection of thoughts and ideas which I think could be of use in re-designing your 007 Museum website. I have focused on three essential components of website design: concept, color, and tone. I will provide examples of each, along with descriptions of the focuses of each example, in terms of the component each example is an example of.

Let’s begin.

ConceptConcept is very important to a website. A good design concept should allow the website to catch and hold the user’s attention while tying the site together. The goal, basically, is to make a good impact on users and give them a good impression of the site, and it’s subject.

ConceptTake a look at this page. Everything about it, from the background image, to the border around the main section, catches the viewer’s eye and says “adventure” and “Indiana Jones”. Would doing the same thing for your site be a good way to get people interested?

ConceptA full width header, a banner displaying features of the site, and a rock background for the header. Can you see your site doing something like this?

ConceptA full width header, the company name and logo, featured products displayed, and a blurb about the product, all in a chocolate brown color. Could the same idea work for your site?

ColorThe color(s) of a website is very important. People will often associate an image with the colors that accompany it, and this will likely affect their first impressions of said image. That said, a website’s color scheme should be considered carefully during the design process, and should complement or accentuate the subject of the site.

ColorThe black background on this web page causes the white on the page to stand out, and draws attention to the page’s subject. Dou you think this sort of thing could be effective on your site?

ColorAgain, the black background of this site causes the gold-colored letters and the image at the page’s center to stand out and draw attention. And notice how the orange color of the flames complement the gold of the ring. Do you think such use of colors would benefit your site?

ColorNotice how the black of this man’s suit blends in with the dark background, while the white pieces of the suit stand out and his face is illuminated. None of the colors present here clash with each other in any way (if anything, they all complement each other), and they all come together to generate an air of mystery about this man. Could your website (which is about this man) benefit by doing the same thing?

ToneAn important question to consider when designing your website is “How do I want my site to make people who visit it feel?” What feeling(s) do you want people looking at your site to experience when the see it?

ToneWhen visiting this page, audiences are treated to the Indiana Jones theme, and see an Indiana Jones-themed page. All of which generates an overall feeling of adventure. Could something similar work on your page, perhaps using the Jame Bond theme?

ToneOn this website, the first thing visitors see is the bow of the USS Enterprise, accompanied by music from the movies. And when they go to another page on the site, they are treated to a montage of clips from the movies. All of which creates feelings of awe and excitement. Would something like this be a good idea, do you think?

ToneAn animated changing background and music from the movies greets users who come to this site, evoking feelings of curiosity and excitement in those who have yet to see these movies, and evoking feelings of excitement and some nostalgia in those who have seen them and wish to see them again. Perhaps the same can be done for your website?

Now that you’ve seen my ideas and inspirations, you hopefully now have an idea of where all we can go with your new, re-designed website. Think things over, and let me know which ideas sound good to you, or if you have any of your own. I am eager to hear what you think!
